You need to physically inspect all the boost hoses for cracks, tears, or rips. Also, inspect the bypass valve. If you can blow through it, its toast. Report back.

Forget the turbo for now, you need the following: -Fuel upgrade (injectors, pump, regulator, lines) -Electronics (ECU, AFM, SAFC, etc) -Healthy engine -Intercooler pipes -Quality BOV

Pretty much with the ball bearing turbos, what you buy is what you get. If you want something "modified", go talk to Precision turbo or Comp Turbo. Both of them have their own ball bearing designs with custom wheels and housings.

If the turbine housing is dry internally, and the compressor housing inlet & outlet ports are dry.... Test the coolant for exhaust gases. Pull the spark plugs, and report back - with picture. Remove and clean the intercooler. (Search on the forum. Many ways to do this) Complete a leak down test...
