idles smooth as peanut butter with the new plugs right now. no boost (NA) and as for the guides, i bolted down a rebuilt head from cylinder heads int'l. i'm thinking that's where the problem might be.
I'll get back to you guys on the plug model number and heat range, plus compression check...
Here's pictures of cylinder 5 after 500 miles on 10k mi fresh engine. Cylinder 3 looked similar, but a lot less buildup.
Ran 15 degrees advanced timing with 89 octane. I've returned it to 10 degrees at the moment.
Looks like a ton of (carbon?) buildup and the insulator's chipped slightly...
wow, he did get it clean...:) i say pressure wash him and charge $20.
make sure to keep everything lubed after you do several oil changes, just like everyone else has said
mine was bored .020 over to get rid of some rust pitting, and my machinist got me clevite 77 bearings (crank was ground .010 under too), topline pistons and i think topline rings. might have been npr rings though. it's NA though, i'd probably try the probe pistons if i had gone gte.
i've heard you can just give things a meticulous cleaning and it'll be fine, but we went ahead and used nitric since it was a school project in combination with the chemistry dept and we had access.
