7mgte Valve cover: Leaking & Loosening

I've been removeing and reinstalling my valve covers on a near regular basis lately and have never had a leak. I always re-use the seals, re-use the rubber washers, and always use a dab of black gasket maker at each "corner" of the gasket at the cams. Are you using the rubber washers or just...

Bolt on Big Brake Kit For around 300$.

all rotors are cast andthe holes are drilled afterwards. no rotors are cast with holes, this would be virtually impossible. drilled holes are simply chamfered to minimize stress. and yes, oem drilled rotors will certainly crack from the holes.

    The Mistress

What tires are you tracking and in what sizes? Before I knew what it was like to track a car, I decided on a 235/275 f/r setup on the supra. Needless to say, I don't have enough rubber up front. I run 275 fronts on my current track car, but I know there is no way I'm fitting a tire this wide...

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

Unfortunately, this doesn't tell much as the hp and torque lines had minor smoothing applied, and this was from one of the clean runs. Due to time constraints, I didn't grab any additional printouts. I can tell you that each misfire resulted in a very obvious, very short (100 rpm) 5-10 psi...

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

haven't had a chance to try, life has been getting in the way. With that said, it appears as though the "dwell factor = 10" really means a coil dwell of 1.0 ms. I'll start with changing this and see how things go. Thanks for your help.

7M cylinder head opinions needed, please

I have a feeling that it is a case of more 7M heads experiencing overheating than the 2JZ counterparts.

7M cylinder head opinions needed, please

Caution regarding heads. Have them checked carefully for cracking. I went through three separate heads before I found one that was at least marginally suitable. Common locations for cracking are around the exhaust valve seats and into the water jacket.

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

so is your dwell ~3.5 ms from idle all the way to redline or does it vary with RPM?

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

Is this a matter of logging dwell time and targeting to 3.5 ms by messing with the coil dwell factor?

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

No multi-gas analyzer, only o2. Only thing I noticed was that there was a very fast, and very obvious puff out the exhaust when the car would misfire. For dwell settings, I haven't messed around with the settings at all. 100% across all battery voltages and all RPM. Dwell factor 10, max...

My restoration project - Rusty 89

Petro Canada 94. Word from the tuner is that Husky 94 is a better fuel. Car was nowhere near knock in spite of what the sensors were saying. Stopped pushing harder due to the plugs and uncertainty of the injectors.

My restoration project - Rusty 89

Hit the dyno. 418 rwhp at 17 lbs. Equivalent to around 450 wheel on a dynojet. New injectors and plugs on the way to cure idle issues and a slight misfire under load.

    Having serious blow by issues

    1. A catch can will only collect oil if there is air going in, and air going out. See photo below. Note, hoses go from valve covers to can, can to pre-turbo. The can has baffles to help condense the oil. I also have a PCV valve from a DSM in the valve cover to maintain crankcase vacuum, tied...

very intermittent misfire under load on dyno - plug gap?

I was having my car tuned on the dyno this past weekend. Things generally went well, with the exception of the car having an intermittent misfire under load. When i say intermittent, I mean one to two actual misfires per run. This misfire seemed to be independent of boost pressure (was there...

Please Help Me : Wiring Connector Identification

Have you given cygnusx1.net a visit? While the wiring diagrams are for a '90, most of the stuff is the same, probably down to the wire colour and plug shape.

If you want a bolt-in solution, have new mounting inserts made with offset holes and press them into your caliper. Otherwise, you can enlarge the holes on the rear hub carriers so the calipers fit. Search supraforums, there is a good write up there.

Ticking noise at idle - fresh rebuilt motor

Even re-shimming valves, why would you set at minimum clearance? You significantly shorten your re-shimming interval and eliminate the margin of safety that a larger clearance gives you.

Ticking noise at idle - fresh rebuilt motor

If the tips of the valves wore, setting them at minimum clearance would make sense. The reality is that the wear happens between the valve and the seat, causing a reduction in clearance between the shims and cams.

Ticking noise at idle - fresh rebuilt motor

It really can't be heard from in the car.

Ticking noise at idle - fresh rebuilt motor

That's the one thing I haven't been able to confirm/eliminate. Very possible, I'll have to dig further into it. Thanks.
