7mgte Valve cover: Leaking & Loosening

Hey,
I am wondering what people recommend to keep my valve covers tight? I have used new Allen wrench bolts currently, and now they are loose again. I did not use locktite, I am wondering if that is needed. They loosen and leak after about 500miles. Also when replacing the valve cover gasket do people use and RTV or just use the simple old rubber gasket? I get mixed answers. Some say dont use any RTV, others say use it. I am replacing them tonight or tomorrow morning, so much help would be appreciated. Also what torque spec do you tighten the bolts too? Thanks for your time.

If they loosen, something is wrong. Follow the manual regarding the FIPG that Toyota does recommend.

I've been removeing and reinstalling my valve covers on a near regular basis lately and have never had a leak. I always re-use the seals, re-use the rubber washers, and always use a dab of black gasket maker at each "corner" of the gasket at the cams.

Are you using the rubber washers or just using screws?
