Hey Quick thanks for the compliments and the company. Glad you could join in.But you lost me on the braided line and metal pipe. Are you referring to oil pump?

Yes, I am referring to that oil pump, which I commented on S/f would be a weak link if braided lines were to be used!

I agree Quick. Braided line would definitley be easier to set up for obvious reasons. But I would not feel safe at all with that in there.

wow I havent updated this in a while. I'll try to keep it short. I finished the port and polish on my head. As stated before, I was concerned about damaging the valve seats. After two trips to the shop so the machinist could see first hand he recommend lapping the seats by hand. They were really not in bad shape at all but I couple knicks needed to have the edges knocked off. The lapping compound I bought was really course and left a rougher surface that the original cut on the seat and vavle. The machinist said it would be ok but I could smooth it up with a homemade lapping compound made of tooth paste and baking powder. I still need to do that.http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s91/mk3forme/b4 and after engine bay/head pics/DSC01101-1.jpg

I also started the task of getting wires into the engine bay. Trying to take advantage of the motor being out. The car came with the electronic Tein version of the TEMS so I had to run wire for the front struts, and for the boost guage.

I went ahead and ordered valve springs so im wating on them. Recommended in this article.http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38501&page=2&highlight=chevy+block+valve+springs
Thanks to tookwik for the recommendation for a cheap upgrade and suprahooked for finding the article before I had time to look.:naughty:http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s91/mk3forme/b4 and after engine bay/head pics/DSC01151-1.jpg

So I decided to work on the car hard. I drained the gas tank and dropped it. And while I have the tank out im replacing the fuel filter. You would be a fool not to. Especially since mine is probably original as are many others out there.

Also I bought a used BIC DP a while back and that was an ordeal in its own. read up on it here.http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33833 I asked him if the oxygen sensor was included and he said sure you can have that. Maybe he figured that would help hide the broken bolt that use to hold it on.:3d_frown: So I spent time doing that was well. Why is it that screw outs never work for me. As a matter of fact it broke. So I drilled and retapped and that worked. I also hit it with a wire wheel and cleaned it up a bit.

The afternoon was about gone after these things, but I had to start something else and make a day out of it, so I started cleaning up the tranny. Man what a mess and what a job. I spend probably 5 hours or so just cleaning that up. I turned out pretty good though. By the way I will post pics of all this when I get them on my puter.

ok some pics added to the last post. time for an update. I was in Arizona the week before last on vacation so not much done lately. Tranny is done, the head is done but not reassemble. I will probably work on that this week. This weekend I tried to change out the pump but ended up with a broken plug, so I emailed the seller to see about getting another wire harness. I originally cut the wires and spliced together as I didnt want to mess with drilling out the rivets, that the other end of the wire is attached to the pump bracket with. But after looking at the original wires, the + wire sheath is peeling off. Not good so I drilled out the rivets and will replace with new wire and screws.http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/...ay/mics parts/cleaned up parts/DSC01155-1.jpg
I repainted my tank the weekend B4 Arizona so it will be nice looking when installed. Plus you will be able to see it from the rear so it has to look good. I removed the tank straps today and will clean them up as they will be visible as well. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/...ay/mics parts/cleaned up parts/DSC01157-1.jpg
http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/...ay/mics parts/cleaned up parts/DSC01156-1.jpg

lets see what else?? I removed the clutch slave and master cylinder as I will be replacing both and also odered both from Oreillys. They both have a lifetime warranty. I blew out the fuel line since everything is apart to make sure its not clogged like have read some members have been. I also installed the throttle cable as this car had the JZ motor in so the previous owner had taken it out.

Last week I ordered a bunch of stuff from Drift motion. I also sent my injectors out b4 I left and recieved and email yesterday that they were done. I had both the stock and the RC's I will be using later done. The RC's tested fine and didnt need to be cleaned. The stockers however need cleaning and are now flowing within 1% of each other.

Oh yeah I did a little more to the head. I drilled out all the water jackets as I knew they would be gunked up like the block was. And they were! I also bought a pipe cleaning brush set and cleaned out the valve guides just to make sure no abrasive got down in there from the port and polish. I also drilled out the union tube on the back of the head. Look at the junk I got out of it.

I also have some pics of the intake runners polished and some more flashing that I removed

Well last weekend I reinstalled my new walbro onto the pump bracket. I decided to drill out the rivets and make solid wires instead of cutting and using connectors. I originally did connect them together but notice the sheath on the factory wire was peeling or chipping away. I wish I would have seen that sooner. I reinstalled the wires with screws and nyon insert nuts. I also reinstalled the tank after repainting the tank straps. One was bubbling with surface rust and these are things that will be pretty visible from the rear. I want it to look nice.I'll post pics later

through last week I put my head back together. It sure is alot easier taking it apart than putting it back together. Those little valve keepers are a pain in the rear. Plus on top of that upgrading those valve springs which are 8mm taller than stock didnt help. My homemade spring compressor wasn't doing so good. So I had to find a metal washer just the right side to set against the retainer cause the pvc tube was flexing and all.

Today I had to work so I didnt get much done. I did test fit the new oil pump line from ARZ. Its a beautiful piece. I will probably try to put my head on the block tomorrow.

Also I got some parts in last week as well. A bunch of goodies from driftmotion. I got confirmation today that the clutch has been shipped and I also bought a KOYO radiator on a group buy on here as well. I also got word that my injectors have been cleaned and flow tested. They will be shipped on Monday. Pics of everything to follow soon

Going nicely man.....this willl be a good rebuild. Just make sure to check torque specs on everything 3x's. I torque those arp rod bolts to spec the fisrts time then losen them an retorque them to spec a second time then I check everything when all is complete.

looks nice, just bypass that j-tube in the first pic.restriction :(
agreed. Well I did drill it out,but if you go up several posts in the pics of the parts I recieved from Driftmotion you will see that I got an AFR will all the lines needed to bypass that Jtube all together. His kit even comes with a new block off plate. Mine is already on though and sealed. So I will probably stay there.

Ill update while im here. This week I had to get my valve cover back from the powder coater and was lucky he hadnt finished it yet. It had a stud broken off in it, but I didnt think it was one that got used so I wasnt worried about it. He said he would rather get it out and if he couldnt I told him to grind it down and coat over it. Well I reallized this past weekend that its one of the four studs for the coil packs. So I had to drill it out and retap bigger to 8mm.

Also I used the 7/16 exhaust mani stud kit from driftmotion. What an awesome kit! Everything you need including cutting oil and anti sieze. Just be sure that you do a better job than me on keeping your drill level. I did fine on all but one. It has an upward angle.:3d_frown: Aaron had a good solution though and it worked. I will have to install the manifold first and then thread that stud in after. Also the gasket that came in my kit has very small holes for the two on the bottom. I tried making them bigger with no luck. Plus I didnt want to destroy the gasket. He recommended the Felpro gasket, and the holes are bigger. Still a tight fit though. I also drilled out the two bottom holes on the manifold, as it seems they were made to fit tight for the smaller studs.

Last night I recieved my cleaned and flowmatched injectors and clutch and pressure plate. I havent even opened them yet as I just got up. I will post pics of all this later.
