thanks guys. As far as the poop stain on the firewall. Im not sure what that is.From the location though, it looks like the previous owner might have lost that rubber cap on the coolant pipe. But I will try to get it off b4 the install. The engine compartment was much dirtier than that pic. I just did a rough clean up of it for now. I will fine clean it b4 the motor goes back in.

I am up to 4 right now.:evil2: But I plan on getting back down to 2. Only two of them run right now, but one of the two has rod knock. :3d_frown: I have considered putting the motor from this thread into the Dark blue with rod knock and selling it. So there might be one for sale soon. hint hint. The light blue one is a parts if I need them car, at the moment

Well I ordered by bearing from summit on ebay. Rich was a big help on helping me trying to figure out my clearances.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...e=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1&viewitem=&item=180035827966 These are the best prices I found on a regular basis. Just for the record. Clevites are thicker than stock. And their clearances are different from the TSRM. Std thickness for the clevite main is .1574 and the rod is .118. And their clearances are range from .0006-.0032. Much more of a range than the TSRM which calls for .0012-.0022. My crank is matching the TSRM so my clearance is going to be closer the minimum clevite which is half the TSRM minimum.
I cleaned up my cam journals on my head with a 18mm impact socket wrapped with first 600 then 800 grit sandpaper. The pics dont show to well but I tried to show the difference. It worked well. Also I turned the head up on its side so I wouldnt have to worry about a bunch of sanding media being stuck in my head. After I sanded I vacuum the media out then wiped the journals with a wet cloth.

thanks 87. One of the reasons for this build thread is to hopefully help some else going through a first time build like me. I hope it will help answer alot of questions for others like I had and still have. Im trying to be as thorough as I know how to be and have learned alot from this forum. And as always a huge compliment coming from mk3 pro like Aaron. More updates and pic soon. I need to upload some as I did some more work this weekend. Still waiting on my bearings.

well I finally got my bearings. I have had them for several days now but with the holidays, havent had time to even measure them until today. GRRRR. Anyway they are not measuring what Rich told me from summit. Im coming up with .085 on the mains and .066 on the rods. Subtracting that from my clearances of .158 mains and .119 rods will be put me right on with the TSRM specs. That is good as he was giving me measurements that would put me under the specs. I really was not comfortable with having less clearance then recommened. I will plastiguage everything when assembling to double check my numbers.

I was not happy with what I was able to see inside the water jackets of the block even after it has been hot tanked at the shop. It appeared to be very rusty inside. I had to try to do someething to get what I could out. I ended up putting a screwdriver down in there and knocking it around to knock loose whatever I could. Well that worked somewhat and now to get out what I knocked loose. So I used a hose with just the pressure from the house to flush the block and ohhhh what came out! I took a pic of what fell out b4 the flush. Thats on the garage floor pic. Then the chuncks i got out with the flush. Then I set the block outside to dry for a bit. But I wasnt done yet.
So then I took my compressor and blew out all the jackets. That is the pile of material beside my hand that ended up on the ground. I knew I had gotten this much out and wanted to make for SURE that everything possible was out. So I borrowed a buddys pressure sprayer and gave it a final bath. Needless to say Im very happy I didnt settle for what the machinist was able to do. This would have contaminated by coolant system! Like I have stated earlier in the thread. I believe the previous owner ran stop leak or something through this motor and this is what was coming out.

I wanted to post some pics of the oil pump I got since it was not a genuine toyota pump, but an Aisin pump which is the manufacturer of the genuine pump. There are some slight difference to the outer casing and the pickup mounting bracket is totally different. The toyota name has been attempted removed from both spots for some reason. I would immediately think rebuild but its supposed to be brand new. I just wish I knew the difference between the NA and
GTE pumps so I would know without a doubt that I have the GTE. Anyone know of how you can tell the two apart for sure? I dont have an NA pump to compare mine to.

here are some of the misc vacuum pipes and the crap that I got out of them. I realize there are alot of custom setups out there where some of these or all of these would not be reused. But if they are, I would recommend blowing them out with compresses air to see if you get this mess. I took it one step further and sprayed brake cleaner into them to make sure. There is no sense in putting together a fresh motor and not going the extra step.
