Hehe, he sure didn't :)

Check out the clog:

I'm surprised it started at ALL!

Planning on doing somewhere in-between a hard and soft break-in, I'm going to give it heavy throttle runs and hard engine breaking, but I'm going to avoid boosting as much as I can (so no high revs)

Almost...

Fuel system is all put back together, pressure INSTANTLY shoots up to 40 psi when I jump FP and B+, there was a bit of a leak but thats all taken care of and I'm about to try and see if I can drive it for the first time in over 3 years :D

Nice work! Can't wait to see this going man.

At least you didn't have to drop the tank!

Bah! I've had to drop my tank with a cresent wrench and a screwdriver before. Had a half tank of gas and no jack (and if you've seen my car you would understand how that could cause some problems). Still managed to get the fuel pump changed in just over an hour lol.

That is true, but it is frustrating when more problems keep poking up!

I did manage to get the car to idle, and drove it a little bit

The idle was very loopy, but did eventually settle down... There is major hesitation when I give throttle, the clutch engages SUPER quick but I just need to get used to that. There is also major driveline noise that sounds like it's coming from the rear tires, the car is not driveable yet :(

I'm worrying about seating my rings properly if I have to do all this debugging!

AFR's once idle was somewhat stable, were between 10-12, so definitely rich, did see it go as low as 7.5 when the car hesitates and almost dies.

Cold start pressure was at 80, later before I finally shut it off it was idling at about 30 psi, I was pulling 20 in/hg of vacuum, and for some reason the BOV stays open :aigo: it was fluttering in and out when the idle was looping

A few more diagnostics:

I have code 24 and 32, I know 24 is normal with Maft-Pro, but 32... well I remember disconnecting the HAC sensor, although I've done so many things I could forget such a small task. If it is disconnected as it's supposed to be with the Pro, will it still throw a code?

Jag: I've posted many times in the past that rarely is a Mk3 in any condition to attempt a hard breakin after an extensive rebuild....

There's always so much debugging to be done, I go fairly gentle on mine and it seals up just fine so I wouldn't stress it.

Ha, well isn't that the truth!

So next time I idle the car should I let it warm up abit so I can set the timing?

And how about the BOV opening at idle? That concerns me...

I'm not looking forward to debugging that driveline noise most of all though :(

I wouldn't let it actually idle for too long at a time.

Jazz the throttle a little and keep actual idle time to a minimum, rich at idle now ISN'T going to hurt too much as it washes the bores but this also helps prevent the bores glazing up (breakin is controlled wear)

Not sure on the BoV can you tighten the spring?

It's a tial, so no :(

I can only replace it with a stiffer spring, but what kind of spring would cause it to open at idle?!

Also one of my couplers is abit to large or something and I'm not sure if it's sealing properly.

So do you avoid setting exact timing until after the first few runs?

Once it's at operating temp I shut it down let it heatsoak for a few minutes hook up the timing light ready to go refire it fast idle to stabilise the temps then let it idle long enough to set the timing. ;)

The BoV might just need to be fully opened a few times to seat correctly.

Thanks guys

I think I figured out the driveline noise, I feel like an idiot I don't know if I can say what it was  pretty embarrassing :biglaugh:

I have a few tweaked settings I'm going to try out on the Maft Pro, and this time I'll actually remember to log the run!! I just need to let the laptop charge for a bit longer first.
