Take out the #1 plug and put a pencil in the hole. Slowly turn the crank and watch the pencil until it stops going up, check your mark and it shoud be on the "O". Yes I meant all of it :) If the timing belt was put on and you didn't turn it a couple of revolutions and check your marks again they could be off.
