Either way you look at it you still need to find a "good" motor builder to deck your block to the proper ra spec....there for you may as well have them do the cover at the same time...if your block is already decked nice and smooth then it makes sense for me to deck the cover if it wasn't done...
If you want to drive your block, crank, and timing cover down here to Philadelphia then sure I'd be happy to mic and check for truness of the crank! I need your block to get measurments for the cover though but yeah I can deck it!
If you lived in the area then I'd hit you up on body work...
A caliper isn't the correct device to measure crank pins....can it be done? Sure but only in the hands of someone who knows their tools well and knows the proper way to use them! I wouldn't trust you personally with a mic or a caliper as I dontbthink you use them on a daily basis...not only do...
Ofcourse but clean one race at a time inside of a plastic bin so you don't loose anything....don't degrease the whole thing at once as it will make things tuff to align....and pack the bearings very well...google how to pack bearings as this is very important!
Wheel bearings will make a rumble sound while driving and will change pitch when turning and shifting weight....it will also cause the center wheel hub to get hot...
ignition wire would be the red or yellow stereo wires (example)....its the one that doesnt get power unless you turn the key while the other one is always hot!
hows about one shop fucking your block deck up with a 120 ra (looks like a chainsaw cut it) and then another shop doing $700 worth of work to a cracked head!!!!
trust me i know your pain!
we dont do rebuilds sorry bud.....we could deck your head but it would cost you about $300 but it would be pure sex!
my shop makes medical, aviation, and military defense parts....mostly exotic metals etc....
this is another reason why i have no faith in motor shops....your problem is a...
There are two black steel plates that go behind the block and infront of the fw....put them on....the bottom one won't stay on unless you bolt the trans on at the same time (it's a bitch, I know this cause that fucker fell out and gave me a black eye while putting my new trans in!)....why didn't...
Yeah it will for sure...but most normal people don't have such tools let alone even know what a vernier is....not to mention they are kind of expensive.
If anyone was to bring a head to my shop and ask if we could measure it, it wouldn't even be worth our time to charge you! We would be...
Alot of bearings in there so be very careful! I've done this on a ford escort and it's not fun and very messy! The bearings aren't sealed and I believe come appart very easily so keep them covered in grease! I've never done this to a supra and never really heard much about them boots going...
I prefer a granite test table (precision ground solid rock table for machinists), Joe blocks (precision ground metal blocks of different sizes), and a drop pin indicator...
All of which damn near every machine shop (real machine shop not motor builders) generally have!
You aren't going to crush tempered steel shims which is pretty much how good mtl gaskets are made...different thickness steel plates stacked on top of eachother...they are certainly reusable if you don't bend, warp, scratch, bhg, or anything of that nature!
