Rear Inner CV Boot Replacement

my Rear Left Inner CV boot ripped.

Maybe because the exhaust is right next to it.

It was probably like a week ago, because i have this car in the shop every week.
anyways. i'm not driving it now because of it.

i bought a boot replacement kit at autozone. It came up for my car and i opened it and realized it was a universal kit. i still think it will work..
So is this worth the trouble?

Just gotta disconnect the half shaft, disassemble the boot, undo some C-clip
wack the joint off, install the boot, grease and reassemble?

Anything i should know before i start a project here?

Alot of bearings in there so be very careful! I've done this on a ford escort and it's not fun and very messy! The bearings aren't sealed and I believe come appart very easily so keep them covered in grease! I've never done this to a supra and never really heard much about them boots going bad...sorry I can't be of more help.

It is very very very messy. Be careful with the bearings, or you'll be trying to put them back together... I had to do this on a VW Golf in class trying to take the trans out. The CV boot ripped open and everything fell out... it took me a few hours to put it back together.

Really, he should be taking it all apart, cleaning, and regreasing or it will fail in short order (dirt + grease = FUBAR).

Either that or find a good used one...

Ofcourse but clean one race at a time inside of a plastic bin so you don't loose anything....don't degrease the whole thing at once as it will make things tuff to align....and pack the bearings very well...google how to pack bearings as this is very important!

just pull the shaft from the inner part that mounts to the diff, separate the housing from the tripod bearings, mark the housing and shaft(there's also marks), mark the tripod bearing and the shaft and remove the c clip holding it on, remove old boot install new and reverse order.

i say 30 min to an hour.

IIRC the TSRM covers all of this...

And it would be so much easier to just swap with a good one since they VERY rarely go out so any car at the junkyard will have em...

i've never seen one go either.

i've done CV boots on audis at work, hopefully this one isnt trickier.
just wanted to hear some feedback about it from you guys
