Old thread... but I had to add this because I saw some confusion about it.
The starter does draw much more than 150 amps, but a 150 amp circuit breaker does not blow immediately when you reach 150 amps. You can exceed that by a certain amount, for a certain amount of time. The more you exceed...
Better advice could not be given.
Oh and also, don't do stupid shit and your luck will improve 10000%. If I would have stopped to think "hey, what if..." every time I got a bad idea in my head, I would be a millionaire and I'd have so much time on my hands I would probably have my own reality...
You're going to want to ditch the stock wheels even for DD duties if you're planning on making that much power. They're just not going to hold enough tire.
If you don't mind losing a ton of low end power to gain that top end power. The whole point of VVTi is so that the car can have a ton of low end torque AND have good top end power. It also helps fuel economy quite a bit. If you are going to build a high RPM motor and you don't care if it's...
Looks like a cool project. The 1JZ manifolds seem like a restriction though, they are pretty small inside. Planning on porting them or do you think they'll be ok?
Yes, it's supposed to be thin like that. It will last a long time. On my last car I got well over 100,000 miles out of an ACT 6-puck disc. Every time I'd pull the trans (I broke alot of gears on that car), I'd measure the disc and debate replacing it, but even when it was 0.005" above the rivet...
What kind of 1JZ electronics/ECU are you using? Soarer, supra?
If it's from a soarer there's a specific way to wire the body plugs so the fuel pump will run without the soarer's fuel pump control module. The info is in a sticky in this section of the forum.
I was thinking AGM lead acid racing battery, like a Braille. They are about $160. I will be moving it to the trunk once I get one.
They all have built in factory style latches, but they all tell you to use hood pins anyway because the hood will flex up at the corners. Aerocatch pins are nice...
Ok, thanks, I'll just get the Isuzu belt. I need an idler pulley from rockauto anyway, and they have the belt for $13. I sent the NAPA one back cause I noticed they billed me $52 for it.
I ordered the 88' trooper 2.6L timing belt from NAPA that people are using on the 1JZ and the belt I got has teeth that are almost square (the edges are rounded). The belt that came on my 1JZ has round teeth (so do the sprockets). Is this the same kind of belt people have been using? Doesn't...
Yeah, I saw theirs, I just wasn't able to find a weight. They seem to make form>function stuff so I was concerned it was a 30 pound pile of chopper gun fiberglass with a carbon skin on the top.
I was hoping to find someone who had one and weighed it (the carbon creations hood I mean).
I am...
I like their hatch, but I'm only looking to get a hood right now. My stock hood took a hammering in a hail stom and it's rusted underneath, I'm tired of looking at it.
I'll check out those group buys, I'm only looking for an OE style hood though.
I like the alarm. It saves me $10 a month on car insurance and prevents dirtbags from breaking my windows to rifle through my glovebox. Dirtbags avoid blinking red lights.
Usually they stop working because either the key sensor breaks off the back of the lock tumbler or because the plug about...
That's the line code. Anybody who works at a Napa should know the line code for bearings is BRG and add it to the part when they look it up if it's not there already. When I worked there we had a huge chart with all the line codes on it. I will add it to the first post though anyway.
Also...
Finally found some info, the stock hood weighs 47 pounds.
According to Duane, a CFX hood is 14 pounds, but those weren't your average hood so I'd expect they are lighter than most.
Carbon Creations or Vis seem to be the most available hoods for our car, anyone ever weigh one of those?
Find a napa that knows how to use their system.

Here's the same bearing on rockauto.com

I've been searching for an hour and I give up... it's not even in the A70 weight index. What does the stock steel hood weigh?
Also, does anyone know what any of the various brands/styles carbon fiber and fiberglass hoods weigh? I know some of them are more for show than weight reduction, and I...
