how many thou did your head need machining?

Nah, I beat you easy with 0.030"! I know, my squish is messed up and my timing is off by 1 deg, but it's NA and runs just fine in spite of this. Mid-grade gas for me, though. Asterix

Replaced HG. Removed EGR. One Problem...

Pages EC13 and 14 If you activate the EGR valve while idling, the engine should stumble or stall. That's how you see if it's working. (Seconding jdub again...) With a dead or disconnected air flow sensor the car will start but not run. Asterix

    powder coat brake booster ?

About 5 months ago I looked into brake boosters. This is what I found: there were no new ones in the US and they cost $900. The rebuild kit is about $200 and also not easy to find. I've tried 5 rebuilt units from A1 Cardone (about $200+core) and none would hold their vacuum overnight. This is...

    types of sparkplug wires

Go with OEM Sumitomo for the best fit. The NGK set doesn't fit as well, though they seem to work fine. You'll get over 100,000 miles from a Sumitomo set. Asterix

    Slow Brake Pedal Return/Brakes Lockup

You should check the operation of your vacuum booster. It has the power to engage the brakes without you touching the pedal, especially if it's misadjusted. One of the valves inside may have died. You can, though it's a good workout for your right leg, drive the car with the booster...

    Steering rack bushings

Yea, total PITA. I was able to get the passenger side one in, but I've tried twice to get the driver side one in without success. On my first try, I stripped the back nut because the top strap doesn't move back far enough to get the bolt in straight. The second time (with a new strap and bolt) I...

    Powersteering cooler

jdub may think the Wix 51515/Purolator 30001 is too big, but that's what's on my system: There's no reason why the blue hoses can't be run anywhere convenient. The filter hangs into the airflow providing more cooling than the silly loop. Of course, my NA has no intercooler in the way... My...

    Plugs and Wires

NGK wires are good and a decent price, but the OEM Sumitomo wires fit better for not much more money. The Sumotomo wires will last you over 100,000 miles (at least mine did). For the procedure, here's your source: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=IG&P=1 The...

    Wiper blades.

My standard procedure is to get wiper blades 1" larger than spec. Sure, the passenger one has the "Poodles Effect", but it's not a problem. The Bosch regular ones last a couple of years, so I've been happy with them. Asterix

Looking for some measurements on control arm bolts.

The long front upper bolt and all the rear bolts are 14mm diameter, with the same threads, though obviously different lengths. They all have 19mm hex heads and nuts. The lower fronts are larger diameter than the rest at 16mm diameter. The metal tube inside the bushing is 2.96" long (7.52mm)...

    Hoods with cowl removed?

My vote is to keep the lines. Without the cowl it'll look too much like a Ford Probe. Yes, I know the Probe has grooves in the hood - they're just not very obvious. The bumper is smooth. IIRC, the 240sx hood and nose is similar to the Probe's. Asterix

How long have you owned yours?

I'm glad I'm not the only crazy old timer here. Got mine in 1992, I think. It's like an old pair of shoes that are too comfy to get rid of. Asterix

Anyone know what these are for?

There are two A/C pressure switches in that vicinity. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AC&P=32 These connectors may go to those. Asterix

I can't resist all this peer pressure! :aigo: I'll take a full set. Zip is 22180. Asterix

    Dyna Beads

Wow. Like 1oz of sand in your tire will do anything for the balance... I needed a good laugh today. :D Has anyone had a tire go out of balance over it's lifetime? I never have needed a tire rebalanced that was done right in the first place. I've had the stick-on weights fall off before...

Who's car is runing right now

Mine runs fine... but, the brake booster leaks (rebuilt one on the way), the cruise control doesn't work, the front left wheel bearing squeaks when cold, the diff whines a bit and hums at high speeds... The AC hasn't run for years so it's my winter car. :) In other words, it runs fine, but...

    Front Spindle Nut dimensions

If I had seen your question last week, I would've been able to measure my hub since it was out. Since the nut is only 3 or 4 bucks, buying one to measure is your best bet. (If it is that big nut...) It needs a 36mm socket if you're curious about that. Asterix

    Rebuilding R154- Special Service Tools?

The TSRM has a complete list of the SSTs in the back, listed in numerical order so they're easy to find. Looky here. The 09950-20017 is the "Universal Puller". You don't need Toyota's as any decent pullers will suffice. (This SST is used pretty much everywhere...) The 09213-31021 is a...

    Rebuilding R154- Special Service Tools?

You always could order the SSTs from any Toyota dealer. I've done that in the past. The TSRM gives the SST number, which you use to order it. Some of them are no longer available, though. Toyota tended to not make the tools; rather toolmakers like Owantana (sp?, OTC?) make them to Toyota's...

    Brake Booster Rebuild?

Mine leaks not a lot, but doesn't take long to lose its vacuum. It does still provide "power" brakes. The hoses from the manifold are hard and brittle, which is only part of the problem. It's time to fix this, mostly because it's annoying me and I don't like to skimp on brake system maintenance...
