The tsrm calls for 3 differerent sst's to rebuild the r154. Are these just basic tools I can buy from the store? I called toyota and they said they are for tech use only and wouldn't give me any info on them.

I'd really like to start on this build but I need the tools apparantly.

You always could order the SSTs from any Toyota dealer. I've done that in the past. The TSRM gives the SST number, which you use to order it. Some of them are no longer available, though. Toyota tended to not make the tools; rather toolmakers like Owantana (sp?, OTC?) make them to Toyota's specs. They may still have the ones that Toyota can't/won't get for you.

Some you can make yourself, like gear holders or spanner wrenches, if you have to.

If a dealer says they're not for you, call a different one. Try our pals at Champion Toyota World right near you.

BTW It is Owatonna, And as you think it used to be OTC ( Owatonna Tool Company) But Buzz Kaplan sold it years ago for 26 million dollars. Now it is called SPX ;) with some tools still bearing the oTc logo

Yes I grew up in O-town. If you know the # let me know as my mother is still a engineer there and can see if they have it.

(I get my SST tools free to "use") Ever try and change a water pump on N* with out the SST? you cant do it. lol/

I just scanned the SPX website. Only one of the tools popped up.

09309-35010- Transmission rear bearing tool
09950-20017- no clue
09213-31021- no clue
09608-00020 (09608-12010 or 096078-00050) - No clue.

I just sent her a email with the #'s and we will see if she can cross reference them or see if they have them. Now it has made me curious

The TSRM has a complete list of the SSTs in the back, listed in numerical order so they're easy to find. Looky here.

The 09950-20017 is the "Universal Puller". You don't need Toyota's as any decent pullers will suffice. (This SST is used pretty much everywhere...)

The 09213-31021 is a crank pulley puller. You don't need that either with a good generic puller. Sometimes you get lucky and the pulley just comes off by hand.

The 09608-xxxxx is a set of pinion bearing cups. You may be able to get away without these, but I don't know for sure.

It looks like the only one you need to buy is 09309-35010, which SPX has.

Ok I just recived a email back from and here is what she said.

Mother said:
We have none of the part numbers on hand. Some are C/D'ed. If someone was to have them I would think we would since we send all new tool programs to all dealers
....they are mostly all old numbers...before 1998 or more. I see none are on web sights either. I wrote in blue. Looks like some tools are in other kits.

OTC does not make any of these. If we made them the part number would be the same with -01 after it. That mean we make it and have drawings.

About 09309-35010 yes it looks like only thur Toyota....Like I said this is there part number...our design would have -01 after the number

Hope the other e-mail has helpful info.

.

She also sent a couple pdf files of what they look like from there master book.

Sorry bud looks like oTc / SPX dosent make it :( good luck with your search.

all you need are the tools in post 3. and a bearing puller set. for the special cool tool you guys are worried about the right set of vblocks works fine. here is a sneak peak of how i did it. worked for eveything, but the 1-2 that i had to use a press for that with the bearing puller clamp. if you had like a 2ft bolt you would only need a press to assemble it. now that i'm done with finals im going to assemble my tranny. i might take pics of everything, but then again that would make it to easy. lol.

Hmmmmm the plot thickens. I guess ill just start rebuilding the damn thing. I have a few pulley pullers, so that's no issue then. Cool. Thanks to those that have helped thus far, keep me informed on things I should look for. I'm going to post pics of the dissassembly process and reassembly.
