and with good reason...all of the MKIV owners I see/hear of are "financially healthy" and get very expensive parts and pay professionals to do maintenance. MKIII owners are the exact opposite of MKIV owners. They're cheap, they cut corners, they're broke, and MKIII's are older, in which they tend to look worse cause they've had more time to rot :)
:werd: I think that saying all of the MKIV owners is a bit of a generalization. I know a few MKIV owners who work on their cars, however, I think that most do not.

Most MKIII owners are cheap, careless, and power drunk. It's really sad. The cars deserve better.

Well yeah, I did make a generalization. There's always exceptions. For example, some MK3 owners are not cheap and do not cut corners at all. IE: Duane. But for the most part those generalizations are correct.

The MKIV's are starting to get old as well, and starting to "rot."

Mine doesn't look the best (anyone that's seen mine), but I do what I can to keep it looking good and running well.

Yep, gotten the FWD 4-banger lines a few times, then I burn the tires and they STFU.

Supra's are fantastic all-round cars. They can drag race, road race, high speed cruising, top speed, DD duty, ect... Even better is I see it all at the Texas meets and it's fun to watch the same car do ALL of that very well. I've pissed off quite a few Honda's in my time through the twisties, and even more on the highway and from lights.

Sadly, the DDP seems to have scared them all away, pitty... Gonna probably get a rerouted one and a nice quiet high flow catback and get my sanity back.

Oh, and another thing, most people that see my car expect it to be beat the shit out of after looking at the exterior. Honestly, the exterior until now has been the least of my worries, as mechanical was #1, and interior was #2. I don't have to see on the outside of my car, so it's been put on the back burner.

Not to mention if it's getting repainted, I'm either gonna do it myself, or I'm gonna pay a whole lot of cash to get it to the point you can't tell it's been repainted (minor details drive me nuts).

Though a nice big turbo with fuel to go with it is looking tempting considering the Viper that lives around the corner likes to play...

I've run into lots of people like that. I take them for a ride in mine. If that doesn't make them cry, I send them to Duane.

Duane needs to start stocking Dipends for his passenger. :D

I know I spend alot of time on here, that could be better spent elsewhere....But reading that was totally worth it!!!
I've had the pleasure of riding in Suprahero's car and for anyone out there who hasn't ridden in a built mke doesn't know what they are missing....well one ride will make you a believer!

stock/clean mk3 is a nice car. build it right and you'll get all the respect you want in the rear view.

Okay one last thing. Yesterday getting gas and the car next to me I see the guy looking at my car. he gets out, asks is that a supra? man that thing is mint" Made my day.

As said countles times before. Keep em clean, maintained properly and you'll get plenty of ...what was this thread about again. Sucks getting old!

Take care of your car, and she'll take care of you. Period.

I could care less what others think of my car. I'm a broke ass college kid, who happens to work enough to fund his hobby of building things. The A70 is my chosen platform (at the moment, years from now, I can't say I'll still be all A704lyfeyo) currently, so I'd like to see what it can do.

Seriously, if the turbo 24valve 3.0L just doesn't cut the mustard, and LS1 will fit nicely in there :)

I'm sorry, but the interior of the A70 (all leather) is nicer than even the C5 corvette I sat in, at the local Chevy dealership.

I remember back when i first got my car. I had a 89 maxima with turbo that did not look like a maxima and was fast. So i start planing to get a supra and i wanted a rare one. I landed on the mkiii, i assumed it was going to be a rattle box and ride stiff. I was wrong the car felt solid and was quiet you could not even hear it running. The front was hit and the paint was bad with dents all over it and a busted windshield.

I bring the car to work (toyota) everyone gathered round laughing. I didn't care i walk over to parts and get new brakes flush everything and start fixing the leaks. Pick up 2k worth of body parts and mouldings at my cost and it's on.. Drop it off to the body shop paid the 4k 3months later i get it back looked like i bought it new and never drove it:icon_bigg same guys come over and tell me i must be rich. I said no i just choose not to drive a camry for 320 a month with nice factory hub caps. :biglaugh:

My personal record with a Supra is 320,000 miles. I know some people have gone further. That's with a 7MGTE by the way. That car got one headgasket at around 60,000 miles. Other than that and a wastegate shimmed to 14 psi, it was 100% stock. It never had rod knock, or any of the other "ailments" that people seem to have. I've owned ten 7M powered MKIII Supras since 1990.

Quite a few people around here know I'm a stickler for maintenance and that I send my oil out for testing when changing it. It makes all the difference.

He's talking about oil analysis. Shows wear metals, oil condition, etc. Click on his link. I've also used Blackstone for years, mostly for aircraft. I'm thinking of investing in my own spectrometer since they come up on ebay once in a while. They're a bit spendy though.

Lol. I almost made a similar comment but decided I might get spanked.

You can use analysis for two things: 1) To monitor engine wear and 2) To monitor oil health for extended changes. It won't detect some types of failures though. Those that shed metal larger than a certain size for example. That's why a filter autopsy is always done, at least in aviation. I do them on the car out of habit but have never found anything to worry about.

Pardon me for butting in Mike...

I have to agree with SC and JJ...oil analysis is the best way IMO to tell what's going on inside your motor without tearing it down. And, you can extend oil life out past 10K miles before you have to change it....considering oil prices these days, that's a good thing.

Int he same years that the Supra turbo was being produced, the Porsche 928 had WAY more power than a stock Supra.

For example 1987 - 5.0 liter V8, 32 valve, 316 Horses

1992 5.4 liters - 345 HP.

It wasn't a slouch, but it did have a MUCH larger engine than the Supra
