Its because supra owners cheap out making us look bad when it fails.

that's why my build is the greatest. it's got dents, scratches, faded paint and a badly cracked dash. between the hood and the drivetrain will be about$4000 worth of go faster materials though :biglaugh:

set the expectations low from first sight, then make them feel bad about themselves

That’s going to do nothing more than perpetuate one of the problems we have with A70s – A good percentage of these cars look like shit and as a direct result, people assume that they are all going to perform like shit.

Sounds like an excuse to have a beater.

When I do my NA->T, I'll dyno it for you guys.

I'm keeping everything as OEM as possible from stock airbox, stock IC, to stock Exhaust. I'll be doing ARP studs and Cometic headgasket of course.

I have a supra... and nobody around here bothers to race... kinda makes me sad on those nights you want some action...

LOL, i was living in this town full of hondas. No one wanted to race and the only time some one wasted to race was with a diesel truck. i ran the guy and my shift knob(sogi mod) fell off....lol. So i redline the shit out of 1st gear. So every one thout i had a 1jz( i don't know why) and every one wanted to race then they lost...lol. Then my friends got v8's and yeah.

yeah it's a beater, that's why i have about $1500 in engine parts and machine work in it right now. come see me in another week and i'll be $2500 additional in the hole.

i don't give a crap what this car looks like, it's a sleeper. if i want to "look pretty" i have a $24k supercharged cobalt sitting in the garage i'll take out for a spin.

thanks for playing :biglaugh:

Sleepers dont have to be ugly beaters... A stock looking car that's clean with a lot of power is a sleeper.

A 10 sec rust bucket is still a rust bucket. Doesn't matter how much money is under the hood.

Still sounds like an excuse not to fix the car.

there's no rust on it ;)

and why would i waste the money on cosmetics? i already said i don't care what it looks like. i have a nice car already, if i wanted a nice looking supra, i would've looked for a nice looking supra.

lastly, i am fixing the car. just not the part that lets me brag about how fast my car looks sitting in the parking lot at walmart

It doesn't matter if you're F/I or N/A. The best and first mod should be a complete rebuild. I would rather take the time and spend the money to build it right than spend the time and money repairing or replacing parts that did not hold up to the stress mods put upon the motor

Let them underestimate the Mk III. The best view of their car is from your rear view mirror.

Honestly, who cares? I couldn't give two shits if somebody is ignorant and thinks my car is slow. I've got better things to worry about than what some useless tool thinks he knows.

well on a side note i agree with a few of you and disagree with a few of you, ive defended myself on here before about this and ill do it once again ( not intended to start something, just makin a comment )

i own a MKiii, duh, but i also own an 06 civic si, with a substantial amount of money in it, and it will by all means sit with my supra, granted ive only got a few hundred in the supra, but the civic WILL stand its ground, around here people know it means business,

but im not tryin to blow smoke up anyones butt, its not the fastest thing around by any means, nor is my supra, but given time.... who knows

Most people underestimate the MK3 because most MK3's are beat down ugly looking 20 year old Toyotas. 'Nuff said.

Differentiate yourself, have a nice looking car, one that's fast and looks good and drives nice. Sleepers don't have to look like crap to be a sleeper.

Well said Jeff.

If your car looks like $#!T then people will think of it as $#!T. If your car looks HAWT! then people with think of it as HAWT!

At the end of the day the MkIII (in stock form) can still take the majority of the (stock) cars on the road today. Stock vs Stock I never lost to my friend with a 93 Mustang GT 5.0 (before Ford pussed out with the size of their engines). He had 2L and 2cyl on me but I still took him out - ok... there was one time when I was futzing with the radio when the light turned green...

I remember when I got my first 87 Supra. The 2nd day I had it I went to register and take it to emissions. The guy who moved the car onto the dyno rollers put the front wheels on and gave it some gas and it flew forward a bit :). He said "Oh I didn't know this was RWD". Good times.

My car is N/A and I must say it isn't very fast, but it does look nice. If I don't race, noone will ever know what's under the hood. That's a win situation I think :)
