I keep hearing amazing things about it, so I really want to see what it's all about. :) Not sure if it will go on this motor or the next one that I intend to build. If I blow this turbo somehow, then I'll likely go straight for the GT35R, then put the upgraded CT on my pickup after the 7M swap. ;)

So today I went back to the garage where my buddy works, after hours. I spent some time on the left and right hub assemblies, as can be seen here by the EPC diagram, as always, click to enlarge:

And here's my progress for today, full disassembly of both rear hubs, waiting for my new seals, bearings, races, etc... to arrive at the dealership:

Pulled the outer seal, and bearing:

The rear race falls out, but goes back in when you press the full race assy. out. ;)

Rear with no race:

Race back in place for the press:

On the press:

Pressing:

Flush with outer lip:

What I used to help finish the job, as the race assy. needs something deep to be pressed into:

NEXT post has the rest-

Top view of the race assy. mostly out:

The race assy. removed. Both bearings set in this, then the inner race (axle side) goes on the back bearing, and the axle stub (with the wheel lugs) has a race pressed onto it, which goes in through the front:

Completely stripped and empty hub:

Both hubs completely stripped/empty:

Twenty + years of grime:

Another bearing shot (removed of course) because they look cool:

And last, one partially cleaned, the other still super-grimy:

AAAAnd that's it for today!

nice work shaeff! gotta love the sandblster!

It's the attention to detail like this that can make you feel great driving down the road, knowing you've considered every little than that could make it better and more reliable. knowing you have the freshest bearings and cleanest subframe of any car parked around you at an intersection can bring a little smile to your face too.

I'm loving the pictures! keep up the good work and keep posting them. I LOVE to see transformations from nasty to pretty parts.

Thanks, Steve! Yes, I do adore the sandblaster, from grimy to great in a matter of minutes! :)

I got all my new bearings/races/seals today. I'll post pics when I can. I gotta go do some stuff right now!

Haha, nope. I'm staying 7M. :) I love this motor. If I ever score a MKII, I'll likely put a 2jz in it. ;)

That's funny, as that was always my thought, too. But, I decided the MKII would be a drag car. ;)

A 2JZ in a rust bucket? Don't you mean a 1JZ with a single turbo so he can have 330 rwhp?

:nono:

New bearings always make a car ride nicer(and quiter). Others will be jealous.

Looking good still!

Nice work man. I just did that exact thing to the front and rear hub assemblies on my car. Looking forward to more updates, keep the detailed pics coming :)
Thanks, and I'll post more pics as soon as I get some more time to work on it. :)

gonna get the hubs PC'ed?
I've decided that I'm definitely going that route. Gotta find a local place that does a decent job. I'll probably get the dust shields done too, after I cut them for the MKIV TT rear brakes. ;)

LOL. I can't wait to drive this thing again. Once it's road ready, it's going for bodywork and paint. Then, I'm ordering one of ARZ's 14" 6 piston front big brake kits. No reason to get up to speed as fast as I'll be able to, if I can't slow it down just as fast!

Thanks!

I'm getting his front kit, but I already have the kit for the MKIV TT rears, so I'm going to stick with that. :)

If I'm not satisfied with the MKIV TT rears, I'll sell the kit, and go with ARZ's stuff. Money isn't the issue, but I figure I'll run what I planned, as it certainly won't hurt!

We'll see how it goes. LOL.

the tt rotors are fine imho - you get to keep your parking break still with them right? and with the bi break you lose it? need a line lock or something?(i personally would never trust a linelock for my parking hehe)

honestly dont know what nick m is talking about :nono:

I agree, and yes, you get to keep the parking brake. With ARZ's kit, you lose it. However, that wouldn't keep me from buying his kit at all. It's well worth losing the parking brake over.

I do want it, actually. :) That guy is awesome. I might sell the MKIV TT kit and go for the Wilwood's on all four corners...
