if i'm not mistaken, i think that drjonez has been running a set of the very same nylon bushings for several years, if that matters. auto-x, drag race, street.

not in the back....i haven't gotten around to installing them there yet.

i will be making my own suspension arms for the back.....think A1 racing style @ 1/10 the price....

ah, i didn't know that. well, i'm not sure what i'm going to do yet. i'll likely end up using them except in the #1 arm. my car isn't a daily driver, it's a weekend warrior that *sometimes* gets driven on weeknights. i'm under it every weekend checking things out, so i'll pay super close attention to everything.

i had planned on painting the subframe with a coat of primer, then bright white paint for several layers, then black, so if i get any stress cracks, they might be easier to spot with a white line showing. at least i hope.

now i have to buy all new upper arms, as with all this work going in, i can't imagine putting the old ones back in. :( oh well. the ball joints aren't bad, but i'm picky. i'd like this to be the last time i have to pull anything out of the rear. ;) (wow, that came out kinda funny sounding :p)

i guess i'll see as time goes, if i ever get some more time.

LOL. This thread will be updated during the weekend/ this coming week. I have the whole week off from work, and brand new OEM rear upper balljoints, and the bushings that press into the rear hubs coming in. :)

P/N's:
42210 (left and right)
48725 (left and right)

I'm going to polish the UCA's, just to make them easier to clean, and it's easy to polish them. I should have the subframe all painted by Monday, and the RK poly bushings in as well.

Updates as of today: A tiny bit more welding to the alignment tabs, (no pics of that)- got rid of those nasty old bushings, sanded, fully primed and ready for paint tomorrow. :)

It's getting there for sure. It'll look good once it's all painted black, with the new bushings in, and brand new OEM ($$) rear upper control arms/ball joints installed. :)

Thanks!

Update for today:

Fully painted, RK poly bushings installed. They're so easy to put in! On to the pics, click to enlarge:

Top Painted:

Underside still primed:

Finished painting:

Whatever these things are, LOL:

Old vs New bushings, for those who care:

New RK polys are in, and the subframe is ready to be put back together. Now if only the Toyota dealership would get my parts in! Haha.

Edit: I didn't put the steel sleeves in the new bushings, as I didn't want to lose them while I move it around. ;)

That's it for today. :)

Thanks guys. :)

MK3runner- Mine did too! Look back a few pages for pics of right when I removed it! :(

CT- They're so easy to put in. I used a 2x4 and a hammer to simply tap them into place. I've got a long way to go before I'll be able to give feedback on them, but I certainly will when it's back together.

Today, not a whole lot, as I had other stuff to do, but I got some relatively difficult pieces out of my way:

Disassembled the rear hubs to press out the bushings in it. P/N's- 48725 and 42210 in This pic- as always, click to enalrge:

The pics of the aforementioned- one of them on each side was solid, the other (same on each side) was super-spongy. I can't believe I drove the car like that!

This is the super-spongy one. Both sides (can't remember which one it was) were like this. LOTS of play in them!

I fully disassembled the hubs to do this, as the dust shields got in the way on the press. It was much easier this way. I'm going to get new hub seals, and possibly new bearings, depending on their condition when I pull them out.

Here are the pics of some pretty new stuff- Brand new Toyota upper A-arms/ball joints, which you can only buy as a set. ;)

Tomorrow I'll likely order the new hub bearing seals, and pull the old ones and bearings. Then I get to clean and paint the hub, which should be fun.

Then, possibly Thursday, I'll be installing the 6/6 nylon bushings in the rear upper A-arms, as well as a few other bits and pieces, and some painting.

I'd replace the bearings. I mean your going this far and looks great *page 6 for everyone that wants to see the before pics*

so as for pulling the rear end, bout how long did it take you? this is something far down the road but might as well know now what I'm in for.

I likely will. Thanks for the compliment. :)

Pulling the subframe really wasn't that bad. So long as you have a good breaker bar and/or impact gun, it's actually quite easy.

I've never been into the suspension nearly this much, but I'm learning a whole lot while I'm in the midst of this project. It's a great learning experience!

tlo86- Haha, yeah. They're not cheap, but it's good insurance, as I'll be driving the piss out of this car. :)

It's lowered on Eibachs and Koni Yellows. I hate the Eibachs, though. :(

Once the car is relatively done and drivable, I'm getting Tim from T.I.P. to customize coilovers to my car. It'll be sweet. :)
