So technically speaking wouldn't this be more of an encyclopedia than a dictionary? Perhaps we should use the subdomain reference.supramania.com? Just a thought.

Another thing that could be done right away is collecting and reformatting writeups for a non-stock section.

The DSM site from the first post had basic part information, links to related parts, and common upgrades.

I am suggesting the same type of information. If we want to get more in depth we can.

The pages will strive to provide neutral information. I think a BIG + will be to have links to specific useful threads.

I will try to mock one up shortly and we can see if people like it and it meshes with Burntz's vision.

We'll start basic, and add depth as we go along. We will always have it open to corrections and updates.

Non-stock will also be included eventually. Just have to sort through fact and fiction ya know.

Page templates built - just need some content guys!

I'll start basic and try to take pictures of the stock radiator, since I have it out of the car. I'll try to get a write up on the rad, shroud and aux fans up, so we have a sample of the links etc.

Hopefully I can post this tomorrow, but I got a lot of work to do on the soup.

So far, I haven't been sent anything - so snap away at whatever you have time for and we'll sort out the carnage later.

Thanks!

At this point it's probably safe to bet that any pics you take won't be duplicates... so just start shooting.

Any word on getting an FTP setup?

I can take care of color corrections, cropping, resizing, etc. It would probably be good for use to establish set sizes for thumbnails/previews and full size images. Making sure everything is good and uniform will help maintain a clean layout.

OK, I was going to post a couple of sample pages as soon as I had a chance to take/receive pictures.

The resizing, etc. doesn't take any time at all. But, if I have get a lot that need editing, I'll be sending them your way.

I am playing around with a few different types of image maps, albeit on the pictures I have of my old Volvo engine. Let's try to locate a couple good engine bay shots from different angles.

I need to know if people want a more basic site, that will render properly across all browsers (including text-only browsers) and be completely devoid of dynamic content. (of course text-only users would need to use the index rather than imagemaps)

OR a site that uses some dynamic content (through Javascript and CSS) that will be optimized for Firefox and IE. Typically, safari, Opera and other browsers will also have full functionality. The major upside to this method would be a better UI.

I have been leaning towards the simpler version, but let me know, I don't mind sinking my teeth in a little deeper. Another option would be to be an access-controlled wiki - but I would likely need to have another experienced programmer to split the time with me.

These are just suggestions - I am focusing on the simpler style. I just want to throw this out there in case there is a demand for a different format - I would rather do the most useful thing from the start.

Personally, I think the text only support isn't going to be required. Hell, my cell phone can render complete sites. One way of making it an option though would be building the content in PHP and completely isolating the code/layout from the content. A stripped version could then be rendered on the fly.

As far as article editing adding a CMS (even just a small online editor) and integrating access control with the forum's user privilege setting may be possible. I'm not sure how easy the integration would be, but I know it's doable. This would give the admins the ability to add a flag to certain user account so that they may edit/add content while keeping things under control.

Heh, I didn't mean to imply that resizing and editing was hard, just that it could get overwhelming with this project.

I can't help too much with code right now, but I'm planning on thinning my current workload soon. So if you think you're going to need some help let me know.

I've been slacking on this, so I apologize. I finally got the head off my car, so I'll have a few days while it's at the machine shop.

The good news is, I have a ton of parts of this car, so I'll get a photo shoot going tomorrow...

Yeah, I already made a couple of templates for specific content pages, I just want to get together a page on a specific item to see how it looks.

Once I get one together, I'll load it to my server so you can check it out and make revisions to the page layout if you want.

I'm going to clean up and paint my engine bay as much as possible before putting the head back on, so if nobody sends me engine bay pics, I can go ahead and get those. My engine bay is completely stock, save the air filter.

I have the manifolds, turbo and all sorts of other assorted parts off of the car, so I'll take multiple angle shots of those before I put them back on.

I hope I can prepare one page for you guys to review by tomorrow night. That, however, is not a promise :icon_bigg

any update dugums?

Yeah, sorry for delay. I have been a bit under the weather.

Got permission from Supracentral to 'brand' the dictionary. i.e. use SM logos, etc. I think it will look nicer, and we're likely to get more responses from the experienced guys who like to help out SM.

Just updating some templates with the branding etc. I didn't check the inbox today, but as of yesterday, I haven't received a thing.

I took pictures of my turbo and exhaust manifold out of the car, since I was sending them to driftmotion anyway.

I will try to get something up ASAP; just slacking a little bit.
