Getting photos of engines both assembled and disassembled could be extremely helpful. You could put pointer to every "little doohickey" so the viewer could mouse over it and say "Oh sh!t, I just threw out my oil pressure sender!" OR "So that's what the big empty threaded hole is for!" OR "Oh, so that's not the turbo oil return port on the GE block... no wonder it doesn't work!".

Here are my suggestions for what information will be contained in each page. Obviously, not all of the sections will be applicable to all components, but, the goal would be to have as much of this info as possible:

COMPONENT NAME

Main Picture

Location

What it does

How it works

Common Problems

Service Recommendations

How To

TSRM links

Upgrades

Other Useful Links

Supplementary Pictures

I would like to do as much internal linking as possible, so as the site is developed, people will need to let me know if I miss something. Let me know what you think...

I have my 1JZ out right now, I'll take pictures of everything just incase we feel like doing the same for it.

As I said before, if we want to do this for 1J and 2J cars, that is fine. My thought is that if there is a shared component (i.e. the radiator) we hold all of the info on the same page. We could just highlight the differences between the component in the different applications:

COMPONENT NAME

7M
1J
2J

These are just my thoughts, so you guys tell me what you want to see. This site is only going to be as good as the information going in, so a lot of effort is going to be needed to make it useful.

Burntz - does this sound like it meshes with your concept?

Annoying Rob, sound good bro!

Dugums, that looks great. On each page through, we're going to have a standard engine bay pic, with the general area of the part circled, and then a close-up of the part. Check the link in the first post, you'll see what I mean.

Lets get this goin :)

Yes, the desire for visual navigation in addition to a text index was understood.

Whenever we get the engine bay pics, they should be posted in this thread. This way, when people submit the component write-up they can circle what they're talking about in ms paint(in case I don't know). Don't worry about circling it neatly, I will create a nice one suitable for the site; the pic submitted with the write-ups will just be for my reference for creating graphics.

I am actually in the process of taking off my head, so I can try to grab some pictures of the individual components I have taken off. The previous owner ruined all the paint in the engine bay, so my car is not a good sample for the overall pics.

Paint doesnt matter so much, just the parts in general being clean and such. Take some pics of the engine w/ the head, and w/o valve covers, etc.

this is a great idea. i think what you should do is ask all the members to take pics of a task they will perform. maybe someone create a check list of things that need to be done, and if/when someone does that task, they take the pics and create a write up or send pics to someone to do so. after this is done, have that item/task checked off. sorry if that sounds confusing. good luck with this.

I wouldn't mind helping out, even though my car isn't put back together. Still, I do have quite a few of the stock parts out of the car and lying around, and that would help for extra pictures if people need them. Just give me the word and I'll call up my best friend for his camera (as usual).

Yes, please take pics and send em to dugums. He's compiling pictures and write-ups so we can get the site off the ground.

Just be sure to attach the name of the part so nothing gets confused lol

I should be able to get this started on Tuesday or Wednesday. I am just finishing up a site for another supra guy...

I'll build it live on my server, so you can make suggestions as it progresses.

Alright well I'm going to start on a few write-ups to get to you.

I'm going to pick a few easy things:

Radiator
Water Pump
Thermostat

:p

Ha - that's funny - put in my Koyo radiator a couple of days ago... Probably the only write-up that I'll know what the hell the author is talking about...:biglaugh:

Ive got my engine outta my car right now, what do you want pics of?

It may be difficult because its a NA-T though....

Get general Pictures of the parts you used in the conversion, as we'll be adding a seperate page for a NA-T conversion guide.

Ex: ECU, Wiring, Coil packs, Ignitor, Turbo, Manifold, etc

I am really busy this time of year, therefore not much time to write. However, I have hundreds of pictures from when I rebuilt my car that I can send on a CD to someone that is willing to catagorize them and build this page. As I have time I will also contribute paragraphs on the rebuild. Just send a PM.
