Welp, got almost nothing done today.
I did disconnect the steering rack line from the cooler, unbolted the engine mounts and loosed all the subframe bolts, but I'll wait till tomorrow for the real surgery.
All I did today was swap out the rubber bushings for poly's on my new upper A-arms. I felt a bit guilty smashing out brand new(tight) rubber bushings. But then I realized that my puller
would fit within the arm(barely), so I didn't have to destroy them!

Anybody need 4 brand new upper A-arm bushings?
:)

Got dirty today.

Nasty, unbelievably greasy subframe:

Cleaned up, painted:

And, back in you go.

Took no time at all to disconnect the steering shaft and drop the subframe, but it took forever to get the motor mounts to line back up with it upon reinstallation.
Ran out of time today, but tomorrow will be filled with the fun and merriment of reinstalling all the front suspension arms, hubs, coilovers and brakes.
Then...On to the drivetrain.

Well, that's it for suspension and brakes.
I ran out of things to replace or rebuild. Today I finished up the installation of the front suspension arms, hubs, brakes, brake lines,
front coilovers, abs sensors, and gave it a very rough alignment, just so that i could roll it around. The only remaining work is to fill and bleed the brakes, but I may wait on that. pics:

The front looks a little slammed at the moment, but I'll raise it up later on. Also, it's got some wicked hella flush camber going on right now, but I'll fix that too.
It's hard to tell without the fenders on, but it definitely looks like the wheels stick out farther now, and I hadn't anticipated this. Although the rotors sit outwad about 3/4 of an inch more than stock, the rotor hats are at least that much shallower, so I was expecting them to offset one another. Maybe someone else with the Cobra brakes could chime in?

I'm glad now I got staggered fitment(8.5 front, 9.5 rear), otherwise it would look really crazy. But if worse comes to worse, I guess I'll get new wheels... :)

Anyway, This concludes the suspension work. Next up is the engine and transmission. I will probably Start a new thread for it, but we'll see.

Thanks.

Plan for the drivetrain is keep it 7M. My current 7M has been largely bulletproof, so I do have confidence in it.
The new motor will be a late model(large rib) 7M block, 7M crank. After the machine work, I'll be fitting it with:
Cunningham rods
*Wiseco pistons
New oil pump and squirter bolts
*High flow oil pump supply pipe
Log style T4 manifold
*Precision 6262 turbo
*50mm wastegate
*Maft pro
Denso direct fit 680cc injectors
New OEM engine harness
*1.5-2.0mm MHG(depending on block/ head requirements)
*Spec stage 2+ clutch

Items with a * are the things I still need to buy. The other items are sitting in my garage.
Not sure if I want to do any sort of cams for this motor, as my power goals are only about 400-500hp.
The head I have now will be reused, as it is already heli-coiled, and ported.
As far as the tranny, it's been treating me very well, but I might open it up to refresh the synchros.

Thanks.
This will be a slow point in the build, as i need to start buying more parts before anything can really be done.

Update-
After throwing a fender on the front, I can now see that there really isn't any increase in the track width.
Aside from the fact that I currently have the front way too far out on negative camber, the wheels still fit just fine under the front fenders.

Well, i wont be putting the front end back together for a long time. Still have to do the drivetrain upgrades before i even think about the body.

Not much going on, just wanted to say hello, guys.
The only thing I've done since completing the suspension/ brake stage, is to buy a new set of ARP's(they were on sale), get rid of some old parts, and do a bit of research.
I'm leaning towards doing a shimless bucket install on the head, but still unsure if I want Crower cams or not.
I still have to buy a 90+ engine, and many, many other parts, before I can begin any real engine work.

Yes, this build IS still proceeding, but as I promised, at a slow pace, thanks to funding issues.
Thanks to Jason(Metaphysico) for sourcing me a motor to build today. Not sure of the year, but it's a JDM motor.
It has the 6M crank, but appears to have the larger internal ribbing/ webbing of the later style block, which is what I wanted.
Cylinder head has been alledgedly rebuilt very recently, and once I got it off the block, it appeared to be very clean on the inside.
However, I'll probably use my current head, as it is already port/ polished, and has the comp cams springs in it.

When I pulled out the oil pan drain bolt, I got about 1.5 gallons on coolant! I'm serious- there was barely any oil in it. I don't know what would have
caused that much coolant(it was perfectly clean, too) to wind up in the block. Once I get the crank out, I'll send the block to the shop to check for cracks, before any
real work is done to it. I can say that when I untorqued the head(new ARP studs, by the way) they didn't seem like they were anywhere near 85ft-lbs. I'm suspecting
that the head was torqued to the original spec 54 ft-lbs. At least I'd like to think so, because that might explain all that coolant. I got as far as pulling a couple of the rod caps today, to see what kind of damage this coolant had caused. Honestly, the crank surfaces looked flawless, so I'm optimistic...

Anyway- the next step is to get a set of pistons so all the machine work can get done...

Oh, and not that this has anything to do with the drivetrain, but this came in the mail today.
I like.

Just got home from a 10 day trip, so there hasn't been anything to talk about.
Today, I just removed the pistons/ rods, crank, and front timing covers. I'll probably drop the motor off for examination this week.
I did notice, however, that the front coolant plug(the one that must be dimpled dead center for it to seal) appeared to have a trail of rust from the lower edge.
I'm hoping that this leak might have been the cause of so much coolant getting down to the pan. It would explain how no oil was found in the cooling circiuit, as no oil flow can get up to that plug.

Update!

I have not even touched my supra in a couple months! how's that for progress?
I got a little sidetracked on another small project- operation: Parts hauler...

2012-09-02_13-24-51_468.jpg
I've been busy rebuilding the transmission in this thing. Once done, I can apply funding back where it needs to go- the Supra.

But just because everyone likes pictures, here's my latest purchase for the car- an uber-bargain that me and CyFi6 were able to get in on:

2012-08-09_16-19-50_903.jpg
Don't worry- progress WILL resume. I have not lost one bit of enthusiasm for my Supra. Driving my underpowered MR2 only makes me want my fast car back even more,
and I don't think driving a Trooper is going to feed that need any time soon.

Attention- I am not dead.
Operation "Partshauler" is complete. Had to rebuild the tranny, and she now runs great.

All cash will now be rediverted BACK into Project "git'er dun".

That is all.

for now.
