Big D my man, I think you meant to say that you run a bigger cooler because the only reason many Supras didnt kick ass in racing is because they would DNF due to steering failures, and that a heavy car like ours coupled with an underperforming "cooling" setup for it (even the upgraded cooler loop not long before the car was discontinued) just doesnt make sense :)

My plan is to go slightly overboard with a PS cooler a bit bigger than yours, and use Dex 6 in it. It's thinner than Dex 2 and 3, so my hope is that running it a bit cool will have a viscosity closer to the old fluid, but still get to use the amazing Dex 6 fluid

Lol.
Um, i dont think i meant to say all that, but it sounds good.
I really had no problem just using the original cooling pipe, but a couple people suggested a cooler.
I didnt know about the steering failures in racing events, but i dont plan on racing this car at all.
Not familar with Dex 6.

Of course you did! Especially down here in the south. It gets fairly warm, as you know.

As for Dex 6: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEXRON#Dexron-VI

Basically GM did some pretty serious re-engineering of Dexron, which you know is true because there was never a 4 or 5 released. Dex 6 is fully synthetic and pretty great stuff. It's supposed to be entirely backward compatible too. I would think the biggest noticeable difference with using 6 instead of 2 or 3 would be viscosity, so keeping it cooler would make it slightly thicker and also allow for more room to heat up

Was reading a technical service bulletin on Dex VI earlier today.
Sounds like good stuff. Also mentioned that the viscosity doesn't break down like DexIII.

Still working on the DP/ wastegate plumbing. Went to Lowe's today and picked up some lag screws for the manifold.

"Why on earth would you need lag screws?" Well, to make my jig, of course.

p1951517_1.jpg

I just needed to temporarily bolt a 2x4 to my shelving, so that I could mock up the mani/dp/wastegate. Not enough room in the engine compartment for trial and error fitment.

This is the area I'm working on joining together at the moment:

p1951517_2.jpg

I hacked up a screamer pipe, but I have the wrong angle to it. I think I'll need to buy a 2" diameter 90degree tube.

I have about 2" between the pipe and the wastegate.
That means that I'll be cutting a 90 degree elbow to make a sharp turn.

Agreed, but space is an issue.
I am trying my best, though, to give the merge as much downward angle as possible.

PS- I've been trying to re-use the screamer pipe's stainless flange, but it's twice as thick as the one that came with the wastegate.
So I'll be switching to the narrower one so that I have more room to lengthen the merge and thus reduce the angle to something more efficient.

No pics today.
I received my 4 gauge battery cables today, so I mounted them up. I'm waiting on some 10mm i.d. silicone hose, so that I can 'sleeve' the positive cable, for added abrasion insurance.
I will say that it was nice to hear the 'key-in' warning chime when I tested the connections to the battery. First sign of life in the poor car in months.

Well yeah, but I "pulled the plug" on it again.
I have no reason to finalize the battery mounting until I reinstall the headlights.

Got just a teeny bit of progress done recently, but nothing major.
Got the tubing in that I needed, so I worked on the wastegate merge. Took alot of cutting, grinding, tack-welding, tack-weld removing and realignment, rotating, and just fiddling in general. I was glad to find that I could make use of the stainless wastegate outlet flange, instead of having to use the thinner mild steel unit.

Now, it's ready to reinstall in the car, to make sure it fits properly. If so, then I can finish welding it all, heat wrap it, and do the final install of the manifold and turbo/ dp.

Also, received the 10mm i.d. silicone tubing, so that I could cover the positive power cable. I really just wanted it for peace of mind; I have nightmares about the cable's pvc cover getting frayed on some random edge of sharp metal, and just screwing up everything.

If you look closely, you can see the two seperate layers.
PS- 10mm id silicone tubing is exactly the right size for 4 gauge wire.

As you can tell, not much going on with the build.
Busy with work lately, and not feeling too rich, either. Today i purchased a new boost solenoid and mount.
Still have to finish the downpipe, but once that's done, i can begin fabricating the rest of the exhaust.

535 posts in 4 hours. Good thing I've sent the wife and kids to Orlando because I'm already feeling like GrimJack and his "Mistress" scenario. May be I can get some sleep now.

Helicoiled the head up to 7/16" today.
taped up all the openings. LOTS of aluminum shavings to deal with.

Test fit of the manifold.
p1958941_2.jpg

I had to port it quite a bit to match it up to the gasket(ports weren't even round).
Happy with the results

why helicoil the exhaust threads? what advantage does it give you?

The head is usually weak around that area over time and more times than not the threads will strip. Best to heli coil while its out and easy then find out later on after everything is in and bolted on.

Did a little welding on the dp, but found that i have to replace the wastegate port. The wall thickness needs to be larger.
So, i just mounted my boost solenoid.
