yeah but either way you would have to be soldering leds to the board right? My friend told me to just cut the old leds and tape these on but I don't really trust that.

Your friend is an idiot.

If you plan on changing the colour of your climate control, then yes you have to solder.

If you plan on only changing the colour of your gauge cluster, then no you dont have to solder. The old bulbs twist out, the new ones twist in. Plug and play like a light bulb.

yeah I know the gauge cluster was just plug and play. I was just concerned about the climate control because all these people are saying different things lol. Thanks for the answer blackout.

Hmmmm.........after seeing the white, I'm not so sure anymore. How do you like it, and do you have any more pics or different angles?

it looks like that because they're incandescent bulbs, NOT led's. ;) with white led's (the super whites), it would look completely different than that, and have no yellow to it. ;)

^^^ That makes sense. Has anyone ever used white LED's in their cluster? My biggest hold back, is that I'm afraid they'd end up being way too bright.

How many LED's do i need to change the ones in my gauge cluster? just the gauges, not any of the warning lights (check engine, brake, highbeam etc)
Cant remember if i read six 194's or seven 194's...??

i've got red LED's in mine and they dim just like stock. so you could turn the dimmer down a LOT if they're too bright. ;)

i wish i had pics. :(

After stumbling upon this topic and doing much research i decided to tear my climate controller out of my 87 Supra and disassemble it and am now waiting on my buddy to see if he can find some blue LEDs and a blue 7 segment display for me, but thats not a problem as the LEDs are fairly cheap, my problem is that im having some trouble locating blue LED replacements for the instrument cluster which i also tore out, i found some standard 194 blue bulb replacements at the local Advanced Auto and Pep Boys, but i dont believe they even make the smaller bulbs in colors and i would much rather have LEDs anyways and i was wondering what you guys used in your instrument clusters, thanks guys

Here is mine, it was super blurry because I didn't have a steady hand with an 8 second shutter speed.

Thats sick dude, im aiming for that exact look, now if i replace all the bulbs to blue LEDs will the needles and all light up blue? Once again what about the smaller bulbs that are in the instrument cluster, the ignition and under the dash? What LED's fit those?

How do you do the needles Blue?

I don't know lol, I just replaced the LEDs and the needles must be part of the section that is getting illuminated. I didnt change my guages or needles or anything.

When I took my dash off the LEDs were white with green sleeves over them.
Are those the factory LEDs or has someone replaced them at some point? Anyways I removed the sleeves and put them in as white and it looks good IMO aside from a few hot spots. Maybe I will tint the bulbs or use a cooler white.

I did that and it looked like crap, like a nasty off white or almost yellow.

So I bought some nice blue ones and I love it, but I wish they were brighter.

I think you guys are talking about the factory incandescent bulbs in the gage cluster. They have "white" incandescent bulbs in them covered by a green sleeve.

This thread is about replacing them with LED's and / or replacing the green led's in the climate control with different colors.

Well, I bought some 3mm LEDs... Waiting for them to arrive.

I'm thinking that to go with my deck, I'll do the buttons in red, and the indicators on the climate control in blue. I'll probably also change over the lamps in the instrument cluster to red at the same time. I already have a bunch of 5mm LEDs, though I'll also considre red incandescent lamps, since I like the dimming function.
