Really?! :aigo:
I got 1 in, but scratched up the coating surrounding that area :icon_mad:

Should I just go for toyota's top of the spec, and shoot for .017"? I think that sounds good to me, but what do I know? lol

[ninja edit] Uhmm for some reason I read IJ's post as a few thousandths, not 4 thousandths hehehe

In all practicality, I'll be pushing like 550 now that I think about it abit more.

So I'll go with .021 or so then!! I'll think about it some more :)
Better to have abit of blowby at lower temps than risking having the ends butt!

Thanks for the invaluable insight IJ! Oh, not sure if i ever said welcome back ;)

Aaah, so thats what you mean by 20/22? Fantastic :)
How could a beginner possibly know these things without a mentor like yourself?

I guess it's just one of those things you learn from trial and error!

What's the reason for it? Does the second ring expand more?

So I nailed my technique with the spirolox, and take back my mean words about Wiseco! (for more than this reason.) I only scratched up a little bit of the first 2 pistons :D Not very badly though so it's ok lol. And I only launched one clip across the garage!

I started pretending to file the rings, ala wiseco's handfile in a vice method, needless to say after 3 checks, and no change, I ordered a piston ring filer, until tomorrow, work is at a halt! I am determined, not to let this thread be a year old without having it run :aigo:

I'd like to give BIG UPS to Wiseco & Summit racing, for having awesome customer service! Ordered the filer and some spirolox circlips yesterday, the circlips were backordered, but the filer was shipped out early today!

I decided to call wiseco, they're sending me a pair of clips tomorrow, without any charge! I was surprised when he never asked me for billing info Summit quickly cancelled my order and apologized they couldn't get them to me fast enough, It's always a great feeling working with companies who give a shit about their customers!

IJ. said:
Jag: The current thinking is that more gap on #2 allows any gas that leaks by #1 to escape and not build a gas cushion between the rings that might flutter #1 and unseat it.

Interesting! Good to know :)

So I f'ed a ring, and now i get to buy (and even worse: wait for) a new set of rings, at least i only have to buy per piston sets!

JaV: Be extra careful with the second ring, they are alot softer, and after doing the first rings, the seconds go a LOT quicker, this is how I almost messed up 2 rings...

One is at .023 =/ I'm gonna call it good and it's in cylinder 6, since that can get the hottest! The one I royally screwed, is .026 :aigo:

And with that manual filer, it was abit tricky to get it perfectly square, just go slow, and the feeler gauge will give you a good idea of how straight the edges are

So now I get to wait, AGAIN! One more set of rings, and circlips, and new oil squirters must arrive before I can resume assembly :icon_mad:

lol, you got that right!

At least only 1 is garbage, $30 down the drain!

I tried to find some old rings to practice on, but i think I already trashed em awhile ago!

'Doh! I thought that sounded familiar, oh well :biglaugh:

So while I'm waiting anyways, I figured, why not order another upgrade?
I haven't put as much effort into the oiling system, as I should've. I decided to replace all the squirters, instead of the 2 i replaced just because they were open, I already mentioned those are on the way. And now I made it in time for Arz's current batch of oil supply lines! They are so hawt!

For anyone not familiar, it's a mandrel bent hardline, to replace the stock crush bent narrow pos from the oil pump to the block! I'd say my internal oil flow should never be a problem!

Grabbed a bunch of shiney ceramic parts from jdub, they look so freakin hawt!
I should have my replacement ring the day after tomorrow... looks like I'll be waiting on the oil squirters next

Sorry for all the lame updates, I'm just getting so antsy!

Got my replacement rings, Arz oil supply line is shipped, as well as the oil squirters... now where are those circlips?

Soon enough Nate! I guess Reign's build has been longer, huh? :biglaugh:
Maybe i should give him back his title...

Made some good progress today! Forgot to bring the camera though :(

Finished gapping the last rings, torqued and loc-tited all new oil squirters, installed the crank and mains, torqued em all up to arp specs, test fitted the oil pump and the oil feed line, fits like a glove!!

Waiting on some damn circlips from wiseco that haven't shown up so I can finish the rotating assembly! Pics soon, I promise :D
