Got more done today, mostly little things.
Sexified the harness with all new tape and split loom, all fire-retardant (Right Aaron?)

As far as the turbo goes, how the hell are you supposed to properly torque the top 2 nuts (turbo x manifold), theres only enough room for a open wrench, no 14mm socket is fitting in there! I'll probably just torque the bottom two, and get a feel for it for the other 2.

And noone comment on the broken coolant sensor, a new one is already on the way :) As well as lots more shiny bolts from toyota, turbo gaskets, TB gasket, can't believe how small the hole is for the TB in my gasket set

It's hard not to take lots of pictures at this stage, it looks so pretty

I went and got a ratcheting 14 mm wrench, so it doesn't take long at all anymore :), and the top right is actually the worst, thanks to the coolant pipes!

Yeah, I think that's what we ended up using, I don't really remember...

Maybe it was the top right. yeah I think you're right. I don't think it was my coolant pipes though, because I have a t4 center housing on mine and it's oil cooled, so the line that usually would run to the turbo is just rerouted back into it's outlet/drain one.

So my build has taken a large leap backwards, the head is back off due to a shim bucket breaking while i was trying to set the timing, It appears as though it happened because the shop that rebuilt the head forgot to put a shim in this bucket :icon_mad:

This has forced me to stop being in denial about my ring gap being out of spec, and it's time to bite the bullet, hopefully I'll be getting a set of forged pistons, so theres some good news!

Buckshot, I dunno if you really want an outside pic of my beat up white NA, and the faded burgundy beast (especially with this crappy grey weather)! But I'll see what I can do when my camera charges...

Thanks Mark! I can't wait either, it's taken so long! Now that I have my new shim bucket, I'm just waiting on the Snap-on special tool, for putting the valve-spring assembly back in. I'll finish some head-work, and give you guys a real update!

I'm also waiting to hear back on the status of the torque plate, gotta wait on that so i can bore my block and get serious with this re-assembly!

Ok I lied, not much of a 'real' update, but i did get some work done.

I'm still waiting on the torque plate, in the mean time I'm tackling some head work! I installed all new springs (the cheap com cams ones) on the intake side (took abit of practice with the snapon tool, i had to stand on a chair above the workbench to get enough leverage on it (i only weigh 145lbs lol).

I installed the new lifter, and funny thing, with a 2.85mm shim I borrowed from the exhaust size, in place of the shim that was missing (Intake valve 1), there is negative clearance! Wonder if this played a part in the breakage...
Anyways 2.85 is my average shim size, I swapped in my smallest (on the intake size) 2.75mm shim and still no clearance. Should I grind the top of the valve (could I do it with a air grinder?) Or just get a really thin shim and go from there?

Here's the rest of my clearances for the intake side:
I probably will add .05mm clearance to #6, solve #1 and leave the rest alone for breakin

In your sig it says new head
why are you swapping in crap parts?

I get bad feedback on the comp cams springs for a performance engine
All too often we take 1 step forward and 2 steps back

Crap parts? I was under the impression these were better than stock, despite the great price...

First time I've heard this so unless anyone else can add to that, I'll stick with what the good Dr. ordered :)

Kyle: Progress is slow as ever man, waiting on a torque plate still, trying to find somewhere in oregon now that might have one, as soon as I get the block bored, progress should fly! (until I find more parts I'm missing again lol, it's inevitable)

Sooo, no comments on the springs, eh?

Anyways, my quest for a torque plate has failed, over 2 months and nothing in sight, it looks like I'll be boring it without a plate, so the fun should begin here once again in a couple weeks
