didn't even realize you were rebuilding an engine, or you did tell me and I forgot. haha.
Let me know if you need a hand with just putting things back together or anything, I need to learn some stuff anyways!
PM if you don't have my cell anymore.

Why did you fit the os bearings?

It will have deformed them :(

I remember a convo with my machinist, according to my number crunching, the mark 5 bearings were a touch too loose, and the O/S was too small, but i was told to take into account the crush factor when torquing em down, when i brought everything in assembled, he measured it all up and said it would be good! When i brought it back he made up an excuse that sounded pretty good and said 'I should've noticed...'

Ok, so the bearings are shot. Looks like i'll have my machinist order the ACL's...

kyle, i might take you up on your offer :) I definitely mentioned something about it, but a trip to europe can make you forget things! It's gonna be a fun build when everything checks out and i can finally put it together, modest but powerful!

Yeah, they don't want to make it easy, the increments are so tiny, and they only go so far until the huge gap between Mark 5 and .25 o/s!

It looks like my machinist is going to order the ACL's for me, i'll ensure he triple-checks them so i can possibly get a refund if i need to order new bearings again and regrind =|

Finally some progress today! my crank spins freely, all my clearances checked out, My oil pump is below standard clearances, and the pressure relief valve doesnt fall to the bottom under it's own weight as stated in the TSRM, i'm thinking everythings ok, also, i only have a 40-200 ft/lb torque wrench, do i really need a in/lb to torque the oil pump? Or is 'tight but not too tight' good enough? I don't want to half ass things here but it seems like it would be alright! I also assembled the rods and pistons, now i need to wait for some more parts.

Question about the freeze plugs, i know 2 of them are supposed to be screw in, and have a gasket, i coulda sworn i ordered the gasket for it, i have the 2 small plugs and they don't have threads, neither does the block, is there a gasket i need to order for them?

Now i have to wait for a toyota gasket set, 1 more freeze plug that got lost in transit somehow last time, and some other misc. parts. And i noticed some small scuffs in my thrust washers, these aren't that sensitive are they? Seems like it should be ok, but this is my first assembly job, what do I know?!

Man i really need to get some new batteries for my camera!

If anyone has a set of oil squirters for sale, i need them bad!

Aaw man wish you told me earlier Kyle! Oh well, i had to open and close yesterday. Do you have any work left today? I have the day off...

IJ: Sounds good, and i know i wouldn't do it too tight, but then how do i know it's not too loose =P I'll go get a in/lb torque wrench.

Thanks to Tubbie i located some of the last parts i need, oil squirters and a oil pan (don't ask why they're missing) and i'm going to be ordering a toyota gasket kit for all my seals, i had a ebay one but 'nuff said, as well as new hardware for the font plate, already have new toyota hardware for LOTS of stuff, i have a box full of probably 100 bags of individually packed items!

So far all my threads seem good, except the mains, anyone happen to know what size tap i need to clean the threads out? headbolt threads might be a good idea too

Hey man I really like your thread, I have to rebuild my engine and I have never done this before. I know I want a strong reliable rebuild That will handle some boost. How much did the machine work cost you? You pulled your motor and dismantled yourself it seems like? I want to do the same thing as you did. How much experience had you had before you pulled your motor and dismantled? I debating just bringing the whole block in. Oh yeah that black black gloss is gonna look so sick once its in the bay.

Thanks for the comments :)

The machine work alone has cost me just shy of 2k, yes i did pull and tear down the motor myself, i have no prior experience, other than always being the person that fixes things on my (and friends) cars. This is the first major repair i've attempted.

Even if you bring the whole block in, make sure they know the 7M, make sure you still have a clear set of instructions, have them go by the TSRM, and then some!

They'll definitely get it done faster than i've been able to ;)

A Little update, i finished installing Bigaaron's exhaust stud upgrade kit, with the larger size studs, even though all my threads were fine. The problem is, i had to drill out and remove the metal rings around the 2 lower holes for the gasket to fit over the studs, the other holes all fit. I damaged the gasket a tiny bit, wondering if it'll still seal ok?

And I hope putting the helicoil in dry was ok, I will use the copper anti-sieze for the studs and nuts, Should i grab some washers to use with this? I noticed the bolts won't really go over the studs past where they are in the picture, i haven't tried using a wrench on them.

I've included a picture to show the difference in thread size between stock & upgrade 7/16th's

I should be lapping my block this weekend, after that's done, and i get my toyo order, I'll be doing a final spray down of the block and then it's time for final assembly, I'm sure i could use a hand installing the pistons and head and all that good stuff :)
