Artificial lighting definitely sets it off, but in direct sunlight, when the beams reflect at the right angle you definitely see it glitter :)

Thanks :)

Putting it together is a long arduous process, because every last part / bolt that goes back together, is at least getting a good cleaning, and 80% gets painted as well. The subframe is probably still going to come right back out, and disassembled for new steering rack mount bushings, and a better cleaning, plus I stripped one of 4 long bolts that holds it to the chassis, I managed to repair the threads with a die, but it considerably thinned them out, and weakened it, even though it's only the threads at the beginning that won't be bearing any load, I'd like to replace it...

This is going to take forever! I've definitely been spending a majority of my spare time getting parts ready for reassembly, so hopefully I'll have more progress to show quite soon here :)

^^^^ tell me about it....:nono: It takes forever if you want to do it right. I just spent about 4 hours cleaning and painting the A/C condenser...and I'm not done with the hose yet :nono:

You're doing great!!!! don't take shortcuts, you'll regret it later on... Keep up the good work.

Funny, that's exactly what I just did! My condenser is in pretty poor shape though, lots of smashed fins, tried to straighten a good amount... but some fins were beyond recognition!

Quick question for you experts!

I had to quickly move the car because my landlord decided to give us about 6 days notice to paint the house :nono: and I didn't have my torque wrench handy, so the suspension pieces are just tight, not torqued...

Obviously I will re-do this, but the springs are supposed to settle before you torque down the a-arm and shock top nut iirc (first time I've ever done suspension work ;) ), is it enough weight with a stripped engine bay like this? Or will I have to re-do it when I have the engine in?

I torqued the A arm down before i dropped the car, i couldnt fathom how to torque that thing to 110ftlbs w/ the car dropped an inch on the ground. You'll have enough weight to torque the top nut down.

the weight of the frame should be enough to help them settle into place and if all else fails some sand/cement bags set in the car could take care of that.

Or I'll just have a big friend stand on the subframe ;) He better not scratch the paint though!

I'm running stock 4x4 springs for now, so plenty of ride-height to torque the a-arm, having a empty engine bay helps too :biglaugh:

Moving along slowly, which is exactly the pace I like to be doing things at this stage, I have made alot of progress since the last update though.

Painted the rest of the A/C setup, intercooler, charcoal canister, and igniter.

Mounted the clutch master cylinder, had to make my own gasket for it because toyota doesn't make them anymore, took 2 tries with a razor

Got the wiring back in the engine bay, re-wrapped it with electrical tape, made the split loom new again (black magic proshine ftw!), started installing some electrical components here and there...

Got the clutch line on, as well as the brake lines which ended up being abit of a mess considering I had 1 replacement line from tubbie which he had to bend abit to ship easier, and 2 of my lines were abit out of shape, so it took some time to figure which one went where and get them back into shape!

Words will have to do for now, it started getting dark and my engine by needs to be cleaned before it's worthy of any pictures!

Holy shit Jag... After you posted up on my brand new build thread I had to check yours out, and all I can say is that you are right; I don't have a clue what I'm getting myself into. :aigo:

I think I'm going to print your entire thread off and read it ten times over before I go any further. Maybe I can save myself from sending the block to the machine shop more than once?! :D

Anyway, great job so far. I'm subscribed, and can't wait until you start her up. This will keep me motivated! :bigthumb:

Moving along slowly...

Been busy lately, hardly any time to work on the car :(

Had to swap all 4 shocks and springs on my DD Supra since they were totally blown - Thanks for the hookup Luis!!

I'm getting pretty close to thinking about getting that engine in, but I still have some purchases to make, such as a clutch, SS brake lines, I'd like to get a AFPR kit... but lack of funds forces me to prioritize :(

So first priority leads me to planning out the exact details of my full-flow oil cooler setup!

Plans so far are as follows:
Mocal 180 degree T-Stat
B&M supercooler, 70274, 11"x11"x1.5"
Wix and Trasko filters

Probably earls sandwich adaptor, and the permacool dual filter mount

Aeroquip socketless hose, probably -10. I was going to go with -8 but apparently that would make my .510" minimum id oil supply line pointless

The entire cooler setup (I hope I didn't miss anything!) is ordered, and the first parts arrived!

I spent over an hour researching and then figuring out exactly what parts I needed to complete this all in one shot! Incase it'll help in the future, here is my full shopping list (this excludes any clamps and mounting hardware I'll need, once I figure out where I'm going to put it all!)

First I'll begin with a picture!

This stuff is alot larger in person, especially the oil cooler, It'll be a challenge finding a good spot for it!

Heres the list for my all out (short of an accusump and modified pan, and without going dry-sump lol) oiling system:

B&M Supercooler, 70274
Permacool Dual oil filter mount, 3/4-16 thread
Permacool spin on oil filter adaptor

These next three are for oil pressure and temp senders, you can use the extra 2 ports on the filter mount, but I decided to go with post-oil cooler readings:

Aeroquip female -10 to male -6 reducer
Earls -6 to 1/8" NPT
Earls 1/8" NPT Tee

Mocal 180* Thermostat, -10 fittings
Aeroquip -10 socketless hose (I hope 13' is enough!)
Aerolube for hose assembly
8 Socketless Mocal -10 hose ends (only need 6 if you use filter mount for sensors)
1 Aeroquip -10 tee (again only needed if you tap into the line for sensors)
4 Socketless Mocal -10 90* hose ends
6 Mocal 1/2" NPT to -10 adaptors

Almost forgot you'll need a N/A Filterstud, and some teflon for the npt fittings :)

I think that just about covers it!

This setup used in conjuction with wix and trasko filters, should complement my new oil squirters, shimmed pump, and Arz oil pump hardline! Lots of volume, without building (or losing) pressure! That's the goal at least ;)

goodness you've been busy!

Nice choice on the cooling hardware, just be careful where you mount it, just cus it fits doesnt make it good, my 9''x11'' puts out a shitload of heat, enough to burn you, ask me how i know, but you definitely have one of the better oil systems now.

Glad the suspension stuff is wrkin for ya!

Get the AFPR kit though, anything fuel should be of upmost importance w/ what you've got invested. I know how hard it is to spend $ on a car while in school. It'll be worth it. Wut clutch are you looking into. I've been looking around for a good quality one for a while.

any ETA for this things completion? Spring maybe?

Yeah I'm getting alittle bit nervous about if I'll be able to find somewhere to mount that cooler!! I'm hoping infront of the ac dryer, but i need to finish my ac lines, install the condensor fan, and get my IC mocked up before I can think of deciding on a location... I'll probably have to get the bumper on there too? I dunno, never done this so any tips would be great!

The thing about the AFPR kit, is I am just using the CT26, stock boost, at least until I break in the engine, so I'm thinking of just waiting it out... we'll see! I do have the walbro, and need to install that still, got the J-tube drilled out if I end up using it!

Looking at this clutch:
Act TS2-HDSS, full face sprung disc, upgraded PP, rated for 408tq but is a very modest rating apparently, should work well for stock / high boost on CT, until I get that maftpro, 680's and a jt62... thats the plan at the moment at least :D Gonna be awhile though...

ETA, Ha! I laugh at that, hopefully before spring, I'm really trying to hurry, but it's not working out too well... We'll see!
