Alright, front timing cover is drying (primed/painted to match the block)

Scrubbed the bellhousing and main case of the r154. Started scrubbing the rear main seal cover, when I realized that I'd be much better off just blasting everything clean with some plastic or glass media.

So I'm thinking I may be going out and buying more tools before I get much further along ;)

No pics just yet, but I've decided on my engine's color scheme. DE1635 *Ford SemiGloss Black* + Polished stainless fasteners (except the internal fasteners)

Through the power of MS Paint, I give you a preview of what the engine is shaping up to be.

All fasteners will be stainless steel.

An idea of the direction I'm going:

BTW, engine won't be assembled this weeked :( Just went through the entire motor before I started buttoning her up, checking all the tolerances one last time, and I found something I missed -

The oil pump driveshaft collar is measuring .6mm thrust clearance. Ordered new collar/thrust surface from the stealership for $30, but they won't be here until NEXT weekend. :3d_frown:

Better to find now, than after the motor is in and together, right? ;)

Since I'm stopped on the bottom end until next weekend, I've started the head.

First, I pulled out my plastic cart, set it up on there (figured between the plastic, and the cardboard under the head, I should have a hard time messing up the surface of the head ;)

I've got the springs out, gonna order the CCA-975-12s on Tuesday (as well as the oil supply line from Andy).

One problem, I need to decide if I want to replace the seals or not - I had replaced them only about 3-4k miles ago. May go ahead and replace them anyway - just on principle ;)

1st pic) Head starting
2nd pic) Head disassembled
3rd pic) The best socket I've found for disassembling the head. Tap the spring with it (using a rubber mallet) and the magnet inside of it grabs the valve locks for you
4th pic) Putting the retainers and locks into the chem-dip to clean 'em

Have fun installing those new springs, be careful :)

Plan on putting alot of weight into it, they're much stiffer than stock

375rwhp is my 'happy' point. ;) I mean, really, is anyone expecting me to only have 375rwhp with everything in this motor? :biglaugh:

My actual goals are 475-500rwhp over the widest possible powerband I can achieve. I could probably shoot for some wacky 800+ number, but honestly, it would take a turbo large enough that I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much.

That's not to say I won't throw a GT45 with staged injectors on at some point, just to say 'There. 1000rwhp boost only 7m. kthxbye.' Interesting to see how the ARP head studs hold up to 36-38psi of boost, though ;)

That's really only if Duane or Nate don't hit that magic number soon, though.

Well, this is annoying. Went ahead and ordered a brand new oil pump driveshaft thrust plate and collar (collar has not arrived yet) but get this -

Old thrust plate = 6.02mm thick
New thrust plate = 5.98mm thick.

How the hell is that supposed to tighten up my thrust plate clearance? I'll check out the collar once it arrives.

Injectors got sent off Wednesday, all new stainless steel bolts arrived today, oil pump and shaft are bolted in place, and the front timing cover is going on now :)

Maybe I'll grab some pics tonight ;)
