I've had similar problems with my MAFTPRO. Cruising around at a constant speed AFRs would be around 10.0AFR. Happened twice; first my TPS was bad, second time a wire pulled out of the plug for the ISC.
You can mount the sender in the factory spot but you will still need the adapter and the relocation hose prosport sells. Senders can melt if they are that close to that amount of heat.
I dont suggest Prosports sender gauge adapter kit. I broke one off in my block putting a new oil pressure sender in. Use the autometer adapter 1/8bspt to 1/8npt.
The best place to install the sender would be behind the powersteering pump just a few inches forward from the factory sender...

Yea I used to have one. Thats not the correct picture of the real mk3 exhaust. It looks completely stock but its all mandrel bent 3". Sounds low and its quiet.
There is no closing ceremony because the gauge isn't wired for a constant 12V source, just a switched source. Do it right and splice into your ignition harness, or stereo harness. Dont just wrap wires around a fuse and shove the fuse back into the panel.
You need to have a 12V switced on...
