Tein SS are about $950 and they are the cheapest you can get without going into "other" brands. Tein is well made and it is good for the money. It is an entry level coilover and probably more than enough for you if you are looking at $800 suspension setups.
is the car on stands? If there is load on the vehicle it might be harder to turn it. You should spray some PB Blaster in there, on both sides. That might help loosen it up.
also, make sure you are turning it both ways, it might be maxed out the way that you are turning it.
Didn't want to start a new thread but, is it ok to use a stock head gasket after the head has been machined? The motor was previously equipped with a 2mm MHG but I am thinking of using the stock head gasket. How much will doing this raise my compression? Would I be better off getting a new 2mm...
First off, most springs for our cars are progressive unless you get custom springs. I believe only the Intrax springs are linear.
As for TEMS, no aftermarket coilover works with TEMS as far as I know. The TEIN EDFC is very similar to TEMS though not automatic.
If you are going to be road...
Easiest way to improve, probably one of the most expensive options as well:
What kind of tires did you have in the back? Were they worn out? Poor tires can really hurt your launch.
I think that I would not get those. They are unknown and coilovers that are much more expensive that those are only ok. For what you want, get a nice set of springs and shocks. Lots of people like Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks.
If you can pass the actual smog test you can pay someone in a shady city to skip the visual. If you want to pay enough you don't even have to get the smog test.
To check for blown shocks push down really hard on the fenders. If the car bounces or takes more than a split second to settle, you have blown shocks. When mine were really blown the car would bounce 2 maybe 3 times. If your rear is sliding it could be the shocks.
To check for alignment just...
The Clevite Rod bearings are actually NDC, but the Clevite main bearings are something else. I have old NDC mains so I know they are different.
Marking on the Mains:
STD
GS70287LC
AK B
I can't find NDC boxed as NDC in california. I checked Kragen and a few other places. I just got the Clevite's, paid $110 for main and rod bearings. Seemed fair to me.
My friend works at GReddy and he was testing it on a bunch of my friends car. I asked him if t would work on the Supra and he said that it would not because it needs to be OBD2. It works well on most newer Toyotas but some cars have problems reading certain things.
If I were you I would try...
So a 8.9mm lift at 272 duration cam will really be pushing/exceeding the stock valve train. However, with Brian Crower or Ferrera valve springs and retainers the stock head will be able to handle these cams, correct?
I plan on running the Emanage Ultimate sometime this year or the next. It will do a good job of tuning (as will the emanage blue) and it has other goodies. The only problem is that no one has got a base map for the speed density to work with the EMU. So, if I decide to go that route I will...
