I finally finished the head gasket on my 1987 NA Supra. Its just a daily driver.
I replaced:
Head gasket (stock Felpro)
I stripped the head and had a machine shop repair a rear water jacket and plain it flat.
I installed new:
valve stem seals
injector cushions
injector o-rings...
This is getting confusing... Let me try again...
I have 3 wiring harness plugs under the intake manifold. 2 are brown and identical.
1 is blue.
I have 2 VSV's. One is brown and one is blue. Obviously the blue connector plugs into the blue VSV. This is located a little more than half way...
So I guess that means there must be another brown VSV. In the TRSM it looks like it might be 25804. I just need to figure out where it is!!
It looks like its near the 25719 tank.
Is that one blue???
There are 2 VSV's under my manifold. They both look similar except that one is blue and the other is brown. The blue one bolts almost directly in the middle under the manifold. It is connected inbetween the 2 metal vacuum rails and its pretty obvious where it goes.
The...
Does it mount under the manifold? If so... does it mount near the starter?
I have a brown connector that can plug into it at that location.
The problem is that I also have an identical brown connector around 8" forward that will also plug into it.
I have my 1987 n/a almost all buttoned up but I have some loose ends regarding vacuum lines and a few connectors.
First.. I have a sensor with part # 90910-12024
It has 2 vacuum nipples on it (the one that protrudes straight out happens to be broken) and it has a brown connector on it...
I removed a cam and took 2 springs out just to be sure. I tried to reseat the valve stem seal and it wouldn't go in anymore. I checked another one with the same result. I then carefully removed one and it was pretty hard to remove. The felpro seals that I bought only have 1 internal ridge in...
I took one of the cams out and 2 of the valve springs to check the valve stem seals. I tried pushing harder and they won't go in any further. I carefully removed one and looked inside. The Felpro valve stem seals have 1 internal ridge. That is why I felt one click when I installed them. They...
I have a 1987 n/a . I installed new Felpro valve stem seals and I noticed they took very little force to install them. I dipped them in oil, inserted them into a 10mm socket and extension and pushed them on. I felt 1 click and it looked like they were on. Like I said.. it took very little force...
First of all.. thank you everybody for answering my many questions regarding repairing my 1987 N/A Supra.
Another question... I had the head planed and I bought a new set of Felpro valve stem seals. When I installed them I was using Dylan Wiggins rebuild tutorial 101. He said to take a 10mm...
I have a 1987 automatic. I need to remove the lower flywheel inspection cover to jam a screwdriver in the teeth so that I can remove the lower crank pully (I am putting a new timing belt in)
I removed all the bolts and I have been trying to remove that sucker for almost 2 hours now. It won't...
I read a manual online that says to put packing in the front cam bearing caps on my 1987 Mark III
According to the Dylan Wiggins 101 directions he mentions nothing about packing material under the front main bearing caps. I assume the packing material is something like RTV Gray??
Anyway, I...
Ok, I bought the tool and I am trying to put the springs back in my head.
The problem is the keepers. The directions on the tool say to load the keepers into the tool. I assume they mean the little black collar. Well... I can fit one keeper in there but not both. Maybe I am putting the keepers...
Another thing... all the time we were losing coolent in the overflow tank we never noticed any steam, or sweet smell coming out of the tailpipe. The car ran perfect. All that time I thought it could be a radiator cap or a high pressure coolant line leak. The one time the temp did spike my son...
The motor only has 100K on it.
I am not doing a valve job. The car ran perfectly before the head gasket began to leak. Actually.. it ran perfect after the head gasket started to leak. The only way we knew it was leaking was the the coolant light would go on and he would have to add a pint in...
