I know.. they are similar to freeze out plugs. If you read the articles online they all mention that they RARELY if ever leak. The exact same thing happened to me last week when I was retorquing my head. One of those 3 bolts was filled up with nice clean green antifreeze. I thought the worst and...
Thanks for the info.. but regardless.. if that coolant hose is leaking it will drip directly into the spark plug galley and fill up one of the 14mm plugs that are in the galley itself.
The 3 you are referring to VERY rarely leak or need to be replaced. I think the ones he is talking about are the 14mm bolts that hold the center (3rd) valve cover plate on. If they leak, they leak oil... not coolant.
Use JB Weld and get a tap and die set. Build up the area with JB weld and drill and tap it to accept the correct screw. When you put the valve cover back on use alot of RTV Gray around that area and tighten the screw down snug. I would also suggest you get a new valve cover gasket. Make sure you...
There is a coolant rubber hose line that runs to the throttle boddy/purge tank. It carries coolant to cool the intake. Its shaped like a large S. Its the one that is directly next to the large line that is also shaped like an S. If it leaks at the fitting it will drop coolant directly into the...
I just did this entire process. I went out for estimates and ended up doing all the work (except for the machining of the head) myself. The estimate I gave you is accurate for what repair shops get in Connecticut.
To answer your question.... you mentioned that with the prices I quoted you...
Regarding your "budget", you keep referring to "your mechanic". If you have your own mechanic it shouldn't matter what it costs. You shouldn't even have to tell him what to do.
If you want an estimate.. here it is..
BHG repair with no head work (not even a resurface)... just gaskets, oil and...
Well, I retorqued the head and I changed the coolant and the oil/filter.
Good thing I retorqued the head. Some of the bolts were to spec, others were off as much as 15ft/lbs!!!
Anyway, I retorqued them in proper order to 73ft lbs and she is good to go.
There wasn't as drop of coolant in...
Yea I understand that but it looks like the drivers side cam cover is directly under the intake with an inch to spare. Are you saying there is enough clearance to slide it sideways and out??
Here is a simple question...how is it possible to pull the cam covers and retorque in under an hour??
It looks to me that in order to pull the drivers side cam cover I have to remove the intake manifold. This means I have to remove all the dreaded vacuum hoses and sensors that are under the...
I am going to do the retorque. I'll give it a week of driving around and retorque. That should be 5-8 heat cycles and around 100 miles tops. Should I wait longer?
How many miles should I go and what is the retorque procedure? Do I loosen and retighten or just check tightness?
Thanks guys...
It does feel good but I certainly am not looking forward to ripping the entire motor apart again to re-torque the heads. What a pain in the butt after spending a month working the car every spare moment I had.
Is a re-torque really necessary on a n/a totally stock car that is not beat on...
