I would suggest taking the front timing cover off. these seals are a common failure, and new ones are very inexpensive. Would you say the oil leak is runnign down the front and drops off the oil pan below the rear main seal? You truly need to take the cover off though.

I am curious as to if it does matter as well. I have the diagram and the only way I can see it being a problem would be if the oil had to flow up through the oil cooler, but from the chart it feeds in the top to the bottom.

I have never had problems lining up everything. like stated have you had your head, or block machined before? Also check your tension spring to make sure it is in spec.

What I am going to do next is take a '89 Auto harness and write down what every color is, and what every color on each plug is. Then people will know exactly what these pins go to.
