Power Steering Belt Tension

Ok, so trying to tighten the tension on the power steering belt, I don't see any spot for a breaker bar to be fed into the housing...just sort of leveraged it as much as I could and got some tension in it but it's got about 1/2 inch of slack in the belt..I don't know what it had before so I don't know if this is good enough or it should be more...the manual says like 100lbs, I don't have a gauge.

So two questions, what is the proper way to get some tension on the belt? Is there a spot for a breaker bar I'm not seeing...or some adjustment bolt? Also how much tension should there be? How much play in the belt when it's at proper tension?

This might not be the correct way but i losened the bolt in the front of the pump and i put a pry bar on a solid area of the pump or bracket to increase the tension and my free play is basically none

I know, thread from the dead, but....

This is one of those things where I wonder why we don't have a tensioner like the A/C and the water pump/alternator belt.

Has anybody custom made one or what are the best techniques for getting the tension right?

Pry bar always worked well for me. One hand on the bar, one on a wrench on the adjuster bolt, and tighten pivot bolt after final position. Takes about five minutes.

Ya know, I'm just rebuilding my engine. If I can figure a way to do it, I'll post.

True, those work well, but why didn't Toyota just put one on there like the A/C or alternator belt? It seems like there could have been a way to make that happen...
