Im pretty sure you havent tried to pull the clutch fork out.
Tyr this, remove the slave cylinder and hold on to the clutch fork and yank it straight out as if it were a knife stuck in a pig. That might answer a few questions for you.
Also if you didnt already figure it out, the thicker...
I have taken a part a bunch of 7M's even one with 240,000 miles and the crosshatching was still plenty visible. Crosshatching missing at the top (or commonly calle a "ridge") usually happend on older carburated motors, because carbs are no good at maintaining good AFR's at idle.
That...
I dont understand the "NO MORE TURBOS" mentality. Just run a very conservative boost and you will make 270 HP very reliabily. I dont get it, I personally have converted over a dozen people that thought they wanted to make a rockin NA motor. I just took them for a spin in my turbo car and BAM...
Best laugh Ive had all day, I love those movies. In "The Meaning Of Life" look for the "A Fish A Fish A Fish" skit, watch it and rewind it about 20 times and see if you arent laughing uncontrollably. Its so weird, but its funny as hell and it makes absolutely no sence what so ever. "A Fish A...
Yea I have done at least 3 MHG's with no re-surface of the block. If you can find a shop that will deck the head wit out dissassembeling it that would be the fastest and cheapest. Provided you dont need to remove more than .006 inches or so. My machinist buddy did a couple for me and it took...
P5150, I like your idea for rotating the disc, if that does work, that would save quite a bit of time, I will recomend it next time one of my Rock crawling friends does it backwards.
To save time on this one, mark (so it goes back togeather in phase) and remove just the aft half of the Drive...
I have several friends with Toyota trucks make this assumption also. Im pretty sure thats incorrect. I just installed mine less than a month ago. Im pretty confident the springs and the bulk of the clutch go towards the aft of the vehicle or closest to the clutch cover. You will be able to...
Is it possible the clutch rusted to the flywheel? Was this combo stored outside for a while? (Motor off) Put the car in gear push the clutch in, start the car and see if the starter isnt strong enough to possibly break the bond? "IF" IT IS RUSTED that is.
OR
You say you can see the clutch...
I installed one on mine. The jury is still out. I thought I might notice something but it is so barely imperceptible that I was kind of surprised that I didnt notice anything just yet.
It could be that I made so many changes that I dont know if I could attribute any one change to just one...
I worked for GM between 91 and 95 and R134 was mandated By the EPA to be used in all vehicles manufactured for the 1994 model year. All the manufacturers knew about this more than 2 years in advance. Some manufacturers knowing this was coming just switched over as soon as they could especially...
Im not sure why you say that? Every ounce of oil that goes out the squirters does not go to the bearings. You only want the squirters to flow when the rpm's/pressure (and theoretically) the load/heat are up. The main objective of the oil squirters is to cool the bottom of the piston. Some...
Bummer I will fix it tonight.
That one is the most shocking. It shows the valve flowing freely from as low as 10 psi. It never exhibits a definate opening point, if you had 6 oil squirters like this in your motor your bearings might seriously suffer. That one is the very reason I replaced...
While I had all the parts out I made a test fixture to test the "opening point" of the oil squirter "Check Valves" as Toyota calls them. These items are a bolt with a ball bearing held pressurized with a coil spring in the closed position the oil exits similar to the way oil would exit a banjo...
IJ: What do you have for a cold idle? And what weight oil do you run?
I finally changed to a multi weight 10W-40 after the break in. I still need to do a leak-down but by all visual reports it seems that I have no smoke at all during accell or decell. Yeaaa!!!
Now that this show is over with I am hitting everything as hard as possible.
There are a lot of things I can do concurrently, just wait and see. When I make progress in one area you guys will hear about it for sure.
