Your cooling system should be up to par for racing... only reason to turn heater on would be to ad just a tad bit more cooling power... If you need to turn heater on to keep temp down... you need better cooling system... For racing... take heater out...less weight...

the outer casing with wire is just a shielding... it should not be attached to the sensor... so as long as its not touching inner wire you are good
