Power window switches keep failing, why?

Tried the pencil eraser thing, much smoother, thanks. I used 150wt PAG oil to lube the contacts this time. Another research paper I found said that silicone oils are bad for contacts and cause a non-conductive crystalline structure to form (which may be what the black stuff was I had to scrape...

EFI main relay and the Fuel Pump Computer in the event of an Crash - JDM 1JZ

It does if you're doing it with a car that never had a fuel pump ECU. If you have a 2JZ swap or one of the 1JZ engines that use a fuel pump ECU in the donor car (soarer, chaser) the ECU cuts the pump by cutting the PWM signal to the pump ECU, and the pump ECU cuts the pump. When you swap one of...

EFI main relay and the Fuel Pump Computer in the event of an Crash - JDM 1JZ

The EFI main relay will not shut the fuel pump off if the engine stalls in a crash. It only shuts the pump off if you shut the key off. An easy test to check this is to stall the car out with the clutch and listen for the pump. The switch IJ is talking about is probably the best way. I would...

    Bilstein shocks drop

It's called Motion Ratio; the ratio of wheel movement to shock shaft movement. On a MKIV it's (according to a post on SF) .60 front and .72 rear. I have no idea what it is on a MKIII, but it's probably very similar. Either way, I wouldn't lower it like that on stock springs, it might look cool...

Rear passenger wheel sticks out further than the rear driverside??????????

Just take it to the gun range and put about 20 pounds of binary explosive targets next to whatever wheel is sticking out too far, then set the stuff off with your rifle. That should knock it back into spec.

Tie rods and Lower ball joints

Hit the side of the knuckle with a hammer right where the joint goes through and it will pop it loose. Just a normal size hammer... not a sledgehammer. Save the pickle fork for eating lunch. :biglaugh:

    puzzling brake issue here

I would start with a brake booster. From everything you described, it seems like the most likely culprit. Just be sure you install it right and (most importantly) adjust the pedal free-play correctly as per the factory manual.

Power window switches keep failing, why?

I've been using a points file to clean the whole top of the contact to a clean, shiny, slightly domed (like stock) surface. I was just reading that the 89+ window switches are different. Is that just a cosmetic change, or did they redesign the internals to be more reliable?

    The Small Questions Thread

The lever in my driver side jamb is broken off, and the belt retracts fine. The passenger side still has the lever and when you open the door the belt retracts suddenly with a buzzing sound. So does that lever lock the belt out so it doesn't constantly put tension on the belt while you're...

    dumb autometer gauge

If you call autometer, they will probably send you a new gauge with no hassle. They have been known to be good about this kind of thing as long as you aren't a jerk on the phone. That nut on the back holds the fitting to the gauge housing, it's not some magical nut that recalibrates space and...

    Taillight kill switch....Ghost car

Some info that should be known... In PA there's a $285 fine for shutting off your lights to avoid ID by a police officer (even if they are not chasing you and they are just trying to read your plate), PLUS 6 months suspension. If you do it to evade, it's between a $5,500 and a $15,500 fine and...

    2JZGTE - VVTi in a Ma70 chassis.

Just avoid the ECU's that have the immobilizer, I don't think there is any way to bypass it. I don't know if there is any difference between the two as far as power/tune goes. I'm researching this swap right now too.

Power window switches keep failing, why?

I'll have to get the amp probe on them and see what amperage they're drawing. They don't move very slow, but I don't really know how fast they moved when they were new. I have the usual rattling/loose windows, but I did grease the tracks and rollers really well when I put the motors in 2 years...

Seriously done with the *&^$@# car!

Because people with high paying jobs don't want a $1,000 car that's falling apart... and somebody is going to end up eventually buying them?

Seriously done with the *&^$@# car!

It's a 20 year old car, things break... fix it and get over it. It's still a lot cheaper than making $500/month payments on a new car.

Power window switches keep failing, why?

I keep having to pull the power window switches apart to clean the black oxidation off the contacts. It keeps coming back though every few months (and the windows quit working then). I tried silicone grease and it didn't seem to help, and I tried white lithium and no help there either. I have...

    Turbo question for my 1JZ

To make that HP with that turbo it would be about 15 to 17 psi. My guess would be strong boost onset at 3600 with full boost around 3900. Just guessing.
