I have a 1JZ in my BMW e36 M3, my stock twins are smoking and are starting to boost less and less. You know what that means? Single turbo time!:naughty:

I needed some input on 2 turbos that i have narrowed it down to.

The first is a Precision 6262 .84 divided housing journal bearing. i would be buying brand new, for 900 shipped. It seems to be favorite round these parts.

The second choice is a used Turbonetics 62-1 single ball bearing non divided .63 ar non divided housing. Here is what the seller posted about it :
Hey here is my turbonetics 62-1 t3 .63 ballbearing for sale. I bough this turbo brand new about two years ago for $1300 and never had any problems is oil feed.it comes with oil fitting adapter and a 2.5 aluminum elbow already welded in you just need the fitting.it have a normal shaft play, never smoke, you also can buy a t4 housing. made 360hp at 24 psi in my sr20det only driven on summers no winters. turbo is good for 600hp, selling it because i just got a bigger turbo. located in mn,pm me for any question

im looking for $650 obo shipped on the lower 48

so that would be 650 for a BB that in theory would spool a bit faster. Honestly i've never ran a turbonetics or heard of someone running them since the early 2000's when BB's were first coming out and garrett kinda took off. i could probably upgrade the BB to a triple BB, or i could just go with the 6262.

my goals are 400-450WHP with a Lightning quick spool because my car's primary use is Drifting. so what do you say? Older used single BB turbonetics t3 .63ar for 600 or new .84 divided t4 journal bearing precision 6262 for 900?

I have the 6262 .84 divided Nd love it. I have full boost around 3800-4k. Only 7lbs. Spool is pretty fast tho.

Pulls hard all the way to redline as well. No drop off.

Can you save up a bit longer and get a 6262 ball bearing? That's what I would do if I were in your shoes. Worst case scenario, if your car is your daily, you'll burn a little more oil with the twins dying.

Friends don't let friends run Precision.. Google Precision turbo problems/issues. After witnessing a bunch of stuff at a friend's rebuild shop, I'd NEVER buy a turbo from them. They also do NOT use Garrett internals any longer (fact).

Thankfully there are those that have not had any issues, but there's also a decent number of locals that had smoking turbos/other items the day their turbos were installed (not amateurs or morons).

Awesome info guys, I ended up picking up the turbonetics for 550. I figured even if it where to be a pile of shaft play I could have it rebuilt and still be in less than a brand new 6262 journal.

Any opinion on what my spool would be like? I was hoping for 3500ish full boost and 420-440 whp. What do you think?, is that a realistic goal with this turbo?

To make that HP with that turbo it would be about 15 to 17 psi. My guess would be strong boost onset at 3600 with full boost around 3900. Just guessing.

I'd be inclined to agree with Destrux, but you may see the ~17psi sooner than 3900 due to that T3 .64

here's what I'm comparing this to mentally: a 35R, which is to say a 61mm turbo, with an .82 T3 makes around 450whp (maybe a little less) @ ~18psi/4000rpm on a 1J. I've seen this time and again..
