Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

It's because for the 7M, Toyota numbered the coils based on the cylinder they fire (1 and 6 is C1, 2 and 5 is C2, 3 and 4 is C3), so the firing order is c1, c2, c3, c1, c2, c3 etc. For the 2JZ-GE DH-61 equipped cars, the coils are numbered from front to back in the valley between valve...

    AEM timing issues

It works on 2 cycle, as a 2 cycle motor has an ignition event every 360 degrees (or so) crank revolution. A 4 stroke is every 720, but with wasted spark, the coils fire at the top of the exhaust stroke, so every 360, just like a 2 stroke.

    AEM timing issues

If you are using my ignition mod, make sure you use a simple light, or set the fancy light to basic settings. With waste spark operation, the light will show twice the amount of advance that there actually is, if you use the digital advance to line up the timing mark to zero. The dwell etc...

    AEM EMS tuning questions

My bad, been quite busy of late. Will try to send them off this weekend.

    AEM EMS tuning questions

It means each of the 3 banks fires half its fuel 4 teeth earlier, making at least some of it fire on the open valve of each cylinder for a smoother idle.

    AEM EMS tuning questions

That's pretty much the same as mine - I just trigger half the fuel 4 teeth earlier to smooth out the idle. And i have the base sync at 0 also. Will send those things to you this evening.

    AEM EMS tuning questions

I used a spreadsheet I found on the AEM forums to develop a boost compensated map cell by cell after tuning up to atmospheric pressure. I will forward that sheet (which also has a feature for the temp compensation) as well as my cal files to you. Beware that my engine is far from stock, and...

    AEM EMS tuning questions

might need more fuel at idle with 24 teeth. The map I made was done using a spreadsheet to approximate the boost comp. values in the boost range, and manually tuned cell by cell in the vacuum range. The cell by cell values were then nailed down in the boost range. Did the tuner set up the...

    AEM EMS tuning questions

Linear, I believe. Also, i made a typo above - see how it runs with 24 fuel teeth, as that is what it should be set at, not 12.

    AEM EMS tuning questions

With my phasing setup it needs to be set to 12 fuel teeth. Very important.

    AEM EMS tuning questions

    Look at the next page in that thread - my best tune is 1: 12 teeth (cyl 1 and 4) Bank 'A' 2: 4 teeth (cyl 2 and 6) Bank 'B' 3: 20 teeth (cyl 3 and 5) Band 'C' 4: 8 teeth (cyl 1 and 4) Bank 'A' 5: 16 teeth (cyl 3 and 5) Bank 'C' 6: 0 teeth (cyl 2 and 6) Bank 'B' So with firing order...

    AEM EMS tuning questions

Yeah I set up the phasing for it to idle and run better - that post details how to do it. Injectors 4, 5 and 6 are just a mirror of 1, 2 and 3 since they share the same outputs (4 and 1, 2 and 6, 3 and 5)

    AEM EMS tuning questions

Use BKR7E plugs gapped nice and tight (I go with around 0.028 inches) An ignition amplifier like a HKS twinpower DLI or similar can help alot. My best idle seems around 12.0:1 as well with the AEM. Might be something to do with minimum injector pulse width and the way the AEM works with...

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

Depends on the ignitor - there are several CDI systems that can charge and fire pencil coils twice per cycle in waste fire configuration quite easily. Trying to use standard coil on plug with or without dumb ignitors in waste fire when it is not designed to do so can cause issues for sure.

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

No idea - I only have experience using this mod for stock and 2JZ-GE coils, and using a 6 channel CDI to fire 6 pencil coils on waste fire from 3 inputs.

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

You can, but it takes alot of setup fiddling to make it work properly. If you already have the LS2 coils, it might be worth it. Otherwise I would just stick with a wastefire setup - if you want to run pencil coils you can always get a CDI box that will drive 6 coils from 3 inputs on waste fire.

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

I think the LS2 coils have a built in 'dumb' ignitor, but since the AEM only has 5 ignition inputs, you will need to figure out something custom. The DH61 only works properly with the stock 7MGTE coils, or the 2JZ-GE wastefire coils (as far as I know).

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

If you are asking for what it looks like in the 'donor' car for the DH61, it varies depending on the car. You just need the igniter module and a pigtail with at least 6 inches of wire.

Removing multiplex from 7MGTE for less than $200

Follow the spark plug wires to figure out which coil is which - in my original guide, on page 1, I say which plugs should be driven by which coil numbers. If you use that as your guide, and my wiring directions and AEM setup, it doesn't matter if you are using the stock 7M, or the 2JZ-GE coilpacks.

Also, stick with the dwell wizard for the 2JZ-GE coils as i describe. This makes it drive the smart ignitor properly, using either the stock 7M coils, or 2JZ-GE coils. It is the ignitor itself that sets the dwell based on RPM. The dwell setting on the AEM box should be a static dwell for...
