It will cost you as much to make a 7m reliable at 300whp as it will to swap in a 1jz.

:biglaugh: im sorry but this is the stupidest thing i have EVER read in all these bullshit threads about 1jz/7m.

show me ANY 1jz full swap for 400 bucks...cause thats all it costs for a mhg and arps. which makes the 7m perfectly reliable.

on top of that....a full 1jz swap is around 3k on average...some cheaper some more expensive.... for 3k i could have a forged internal 7m and it will be MORE RELIABLE then the USED 1jz....

these threads still make me laugh....

How many 7M that have been rebuilt fail later on due to BHG or Rod Knock? I can think of quite a few. Well built ones, too. On the contrary, how often do you hear of a 1J that hasn't been rebuilt failing? Only one I know of was Joe's, and even he admitted that he was at fault.

There's an arguement to be made for both sides, so I'm not starting a debate. Just remember to check your oil before you crank your 7M, you might be sorry if you don't. :biglaugh:

if they fail after being rebuilt...guess what...its the builders fault.... PERIOD. so obviously they werent well built ones. its either the builders fault or the operators fault... low oil will cause rod knock on any abused engine.

and i have heard of MANY 1jzs with bhg rod knock blown piston rings blown turbos cracked heads...i can keep going if you want..... you dont hear about many of them because the people who swap to 1j and then break them...normally dont want anyone else to know they broke that too. i know of a BUNCH of people who have told me "hey i broke this on my 1j" "but dont tell anyone".

my 7m has been running perfect for the past two years since i rebuilt the whole thing. i had to replace the bearings when i didnt fix an oil leak and did two dyno runs and burnouts and donuts on about half a quart of oil and that was MY FAULT. since then its been 100% reliable sans normal maintenence. and i beat the living shit out of my car.

anyways...i didnt want to get into this...i do like the 1js...i like my 7m more. but both are good engines with potential in different areas. i just thought the comment iquoted was VERY funny at how dumb and UTTERLY WRONG it was.

Ok i have heard of quiet a few jz's including the 2j that have spun a rod and such blown a headgasket etc.. the only difference is 7m guys are mostly poor and jz guys just pay it to be fixed and the 7m guys ask how do i fix it.On a side note any built motor can blow i have seen countless times high dollar motors blow on the first run. When you up anything from factory horsepower your running the risk of blowing it up.

rakkasan,

There are handfulls of 1jz owners here. Every single factory car has a 7m some with high km, some owned by people that don't maintain them, they are owned by people that have no idea what they are doing, etc.

You can't say everyone has problems with 7ms and thats all you hear. Because there are 999x more 7ms out there.

i love my 7m. I like my brothers 1jz. Both cars have its pluses and minuses. drive a car with a 1jz then make your descision. Like seriosuly dont ask others what you should get...

Just because you dont see post on the net i guess that means that things never happen. How many post do u see with 2 JZ's failing? I guess those motors never do.

HAAHAHA think again .... Most of the people who are dealing with those motors have a bit of mechanical knowledge and an understanding of power vs. reliability and not mention DEEPER pockets.

And from what I have seen they simply try to balance as much as possible. I believe NickM says this "the weakest link of the 7m is the owner" which most ...

NOT ALL happen to be people who shop like this ..... hmm what will give me more power for the cheapest price? So they forget about everything except being fast and then when sh*t breaks they jump on the forums posting how bad the motor is and whatever ........

i am fan off all the motors however my expierence is solely based off the 7m and i can say that the 7m is very strong motor with just a stock head gasket tq'ed to 75lbs. I beat on her all day every day with a stock ct26 boosting 14psi and she has held up very LONG for the abuse it lay on her.

There is saying choose two out of the 3 fast, reliable or cheap. Honestly if you are asking which motor you should pick you need to stick with the 7m it’s the most cost efficient off all the 3. If you build it with forged internals and will have a sick fast, very reliable, and in the car world CHEAP 12 second car. I hope that helps!
