Putting wide ass rims on a mkIII will glue it to the road when coupled with a good suspension system. Wider tires = more grip. You will sacrifice a bit in exchange, but usually the trade is well worth it.
Wider is generally better... there's some exceptions, but for summer performance, wider is and always will be better.

I was refering to wheels in diameter, not width. The wider the better, as they say. And no, american SUV with with ridiculasly large 5.7l or 4.0l engines are not for economy, they are weak in hp and have terible MPG and have compleatly no power... To tell you the truth, I cant even imagine why the hell they have such engines while they could roll with 3.0 diesel or hybrid engines, and be faster and more economic/ecologic then they curently are.
Running 20' in an MKIII is just for show maybe, on track you would not have any advantage when compared to normal 17' or 18' wheels, nor car would handle normally.
I never said going with a 20" rear was my only wheel option. This set of wheels and tires are not intended for racing. I will not put more than 5K on my car in a year. Hell it has sat for SEVEN! But I'm not going to drive around on drag slicks and skinnies either. The stigma of big wheels, skyjacked cars and 50 million screens is not me. I am looking for people that have pics of a 315 tire on the rear of a MKIII Supra. I know, the body may need to be widened a little which wouldn't be a problem.
My new wheel combo I am going with is.
255x35/18 / 8.5 front
315/35-17 / 11" rear
Not sure of the sizing I am going with on front.
Trying to figure out my offsets.Will I have issues with rubbing on front if I go wider?

For the 8.5s, you could go mid 30s.
For the 11s you could go around 20, but will have to widen the fenders at least another inch just to get the rim in. But since you wanna mount really wide 315 tires, then you'll need to pull the fenders at least 1.5"

they are 19x10 +50mm fronts and 19x11's +50mm on my old Gray on Gray 89. lowered on BG sport springs and KYB GR2 shocks. i had to use 10mm spacers on the rears to get them to clear the strut bodies, even then it was too close for comfort (only a few mm of clearance). the tires were Contentital Contisport2's. the rear tires are 315/25's and the fronts were 265/30's.
the width is the main issue. the tires are only 25.6" tall so its not liek they were huge. even with those wheels and the MAXIMUM amount of positive offset possible, they still protruded past the body. to run that much tire, you will HAVE to pull the fenders or raise the car.
... i kinda miss that car, but not the rust.

I see that the big tire I want may be too much since I like my car low. Hmmmm I think I may drop down to a 10 to make sure I fit with no issues at all. I can still get a decent lip on these wheels. (These have a step lip)
