What in the hell have I gotten myself into?

I'm very frustrated with this car. Right now I'm really wishing I had kept the grey 89. I beat and beat on those things that the bumper connects to and they won't budge. I guess I'm going to have to go with a bigger hammer. The bumper is offset towards the passenger side about a half inch. I even tried heating them with a torch. I was able to fix the drivers side fender so now when I get a new header panel it will bolt up nice and even. I'm extremely OCD when it comes to the body being all in line so this bumper issue is making me loose sleep. Please, does anybody have any suggestions?

Well in an effort to ease my obsession with the bumper not lining up, I went to the junk yard to buy a new bumper and header panel. My frame rails are still screwed up and I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to go redneck on them and get a cuttin torch out and "modify" them so everything will line up right. Junkyard photos from my cell phone:

I don't really need the bumper cover but I couldn't get the bumper without it.

Glad to see you found the parts you need! I honestly didn't see the car in that one pic. I was focused on the two forklifts, and their TOYOTA badges.

I think if I were you, I would consider letting a good body shop fix those frame rails. The other way I found to make them move, is to let the car do the work, and let it hit something at about 40mph. Just make sure you hit at the proper angle to fix them.

My dad is a retired body shop owner so he's going to come look at it and give me his opinions on it. He is also a major redneck. What a big hammer can't do, a cuttin torch can!!

I was somewhat productive today. I swapped out the metal frames on the header panels so my old blue one is on the black frame. I painted the bezel things around the headlights. I also discovered more f-ed up stuff. I now need the metal plates that the headlight motors attach to and the middle "thing" that the hood latch attaches to. They are are bent just enough that the new header panel frame will not line up. Here are some pictures.
My wife is pointing to what I now need to replace. BTW, this is the first time she has ever touched this car.

I feel so white trash.. I haven't stripped the sawblades on the drivers side yet either.

Well another chapter in my build has begun. I decided the frame rails and core support were too far gone for me to worry about so the hunt for another supra went under way. I found an 86.5 and bought it. I saw it's potential. I Wanted something with a blue interior so I could easily swap stuff from my blue car but settled for a grey leather interior. The front seats are trashed off course but no problem. I brought it home the other day but today was the first chance I had to get after it. This one actually runs. I was told it overheats but it has not happened to me yet, although I've only driven it less than half a mile. When you rev it slowly at idle it has the beginning of rod knock, but no problem, I've got a GTE in the process of being overhauled that I'm going to put in it. Very sadly, the gay blue will be parted for all it's turbo parts so I can do the swap. Then it will be fair game for all.
Well here are some pics of the car in the condition I bought it in.

Ok, so this morning I go to a junkyard I frequent and they still have an 89 supra that was an engine donor for my 89 grey N/A a while back. It has a pretty decent grey cloth interior and good door panels. Hmmm! So here's what happened today.
I strip out the front seats and center console and what a mess!

Seats on the driveway and my son trying to light grass on fire with a magnifying glass. Cool.

It's amazing what some vacuuming, shampooing, and spray painting the carpet dark grey will do for this car. The paint I used was for vinyl and carpet.

Seats installed.

Door panel replaced and I put the leather insert on it from the original.

I think it has turned out very very nice. Half leather, half cloth, no problem. I also replaced the center console and kick panel on the drivers side. The dash is not cracked but covered with that carpet thing. I will remove that tomorrow clean the dash, condition the leather, amour-all everything.
It will not keep those shitty wheels. I told the owner he could come get them. I believe sawblades will be better than those until I can afford so better wheels.

So what do yall think of my find???
