I'll put it like this...................
The car had what I think to be a mild case of BHG for about 8-9 months. It would mysteriously lose water, especially after a day with plenty of boosting. I never saw any other signs of BHG, no milkshake, no wite smoke, no overheating (except for when the water got low, and I would shit it down if the temp started to rise), no loss of power. I didn't ever see any signs of it leaking anywhere that I parked it, so I assumed the worst. It wasn't bad until I had it in the shop to diagnose a no start (bad CPS), and I asked the mechanic to pressure test it. He gave it back to me saying the head gasket was fine. The car drove great for 2 days after that. Then I started losing large amounts of water without even boosting. A few days after that, it finally quit. I had to make a 20 mile round trip to pick up one of my kids. On the way, I had to stop 3 times to refill the water, when the temp started to rise. Now the car was spewing plenty of white steam. I knew it was done, but I needed to get home. I filled my water bottle, and knew where all the easy water stops would be. But, halfway home, it ran it's last mile. I shut it off and poured 3 gallons of water into the unfilled radiator. It was about then that I started to hear a strange sound. I looked up, and every bit of water I poured in the car was coming straight out of the tail pipe.
I knew the whole time that I drove it those 8-9 months, that when it quit, it would get replaced, not rebuilt. I doubt that the internals are any good at all. And, I would guess that the cylinder walls are probably pretty crusty by now as well. I've put thought into tearing it down, and if it's any good building a spare. But that won't happen until this build is over. And, I really doubt it would happen with that block.
