A major major major::w00t::::w00t::::w00t:: (for now anyways)
If you've been following my thread, you know that I have a bad signal wire to my starter causing the infamous "click click". The only way I could start it was by jumping it off....until today...
My mechanic made a fix for it and it worked!!!!! Today I started my car without having to jump it and without having to have a remote starter switch. Here's a very untechnical summary of how we did it. He took a standard automotive 12V 30/40 amp relay with 4 pins. Soldered 10g wire to each pin. From this point on I did the installation, he just made it. I disconnected the signal wire from starter, connected it to the relay. Then I connected another wire to the starter. Then connected a wire directly to the battery and then the last one I grounded to the chasis. Like I said, this is very untechnical. The way it works is that when you turn the key to start, the signal wire from the harness flips the relay causing a direct link from the battery to the starter, thus giving it enough juice to engage the starter. He said an old style Ford starter solenoid would work the same way too and would probably be better for the long run. Anyway it cranked...repeatedly. Then the Heavens opened up and I had to make a run for it. It was already raining a little while I was trying to get all the shit hooked up but it really starting coming down right after I got it started. If it stops I'll get a video.
