Yeah, life has been doing a good job keeping me away from my car and the forums.

It's great when things come apart like they're supposed to!

I think I've settled on OEM rubber bushings. I only need the ones with the camber bolts in them to get things rolling again.

i hear ya, but i try really hard to get online. (though, lately it hasn't been a problem)

i know! it did come apart really easily. i was quite surprised. i went with the nylon because they came with a big kit i bought some time ago. if they're in the kit, i'm using them! :) stopping by the toyota dealership (probably wednesday) to get new eccentric bolts. i could re-use the old ones, as they're in fine condition, but i want new ones!

alright boys and girls, it's time for an update! when we left off, i had dropped and stripped the rear subframe. i was waiting to find a place that would sandblast it for me, which i eventually found.

Bryan (slow66) agreed to do some welding for me, and finally we found a day where we were both free! so i strapped it down in the back of my pickup, and off on the 2.5hr drive to Connecticut i went. :)

i'm almost done uploading all the pics, so i should have them all up tomorrow after i get off work. :)

here's a teaser for the time being:

alright, here's a crap-ton of pics! all clickable thumbnails!

'blasted subframe in very light primer to prevent lots of rust:

Bryan starting his magic:

grinding of the wicked crack i had going on. (see previous pics for reference)

Bryan started to tig weld it. ran out of mig gas, which we later went and picked up from a buddy of his. thanks, friend!

Crack all welded up and ground down. ready for some plate steel now!

first piece tacked in place:

lunchtime! white pizza with garlic chicken and broccoli. it was delicious!

my "i'm stalking bryan" pic. haha!

welded some corners in. top and bottoms of these are welded. hooray for support!

shaeff saying: FUCK YOU SUBFRAME! i DARE you to break again! (this was in no way, shape, or form directed at bryan, who's welding in the background!)

nah, he started tig welding it all because he ran out of gas for the mig. (and refused to make shitty welds) :) we ended up getting a huge tank from his friend, (which was real cool of him). all the welds you see are mig.

i gotta go to bed, i'll label more pics tomorrow. stupid 8am work!

Looking good, Bryan did a really nice job. I think now your whole unibody might crack in half before the rear subframe does. :)

That pizza was delicious....

Wish i could have done some lower bracing too, but we ran out of time and Chris had to make the long drive home...

We'll either get some from an 89+ or I'll make some the next time either one of us is in the other ones area.

yeah it was. i'm craving it again right now! i'm on the hunt for the '89+ braces. if all goes well, they should simply bolt right in. maybe we'll have to weld some nuts in there to act as captured nuts, that way i only need to literally bolt them in. :)

oh, it's an absolute beast. honestly, the pics he's posted do it absolutely NO justice. it's really a work of art, and the craftsmanship is top notch!

now that, boys and girls, is how you reinforce the subframe. excellent thought and execution guys!
thanks! :) though, i can't take any credit for this one. Bryan was the mastermind. i was just along for the ride. :)

on a side note: this is the very first time someone other than me has done ANY work on my car (aside from tire changing/inspection/alignments). it's a very weird feeling.
