Ok... getting off my lazy butt and trying to see if I can't salvage some shims. Looks like I can Re-use 4 of the 48 shims I have to my disposal. The rest I'll have to buy. Ordered the deburring tool from MAC two weeks ago. Going to check tommorrow to see if its in so i can fix the small lifter problem im having.

On a side note, also took the liberty of removing the Snails from the 1/4 windows that were posted on post #214. Didn't like the fact that the passenger side one was facing the rear or the car.

Ok, removed all the the shims from their lifter buckets and so far I have I1, I8, I9, and I12 that I was able to re-shim because some of the old shim thicknesses applied to the above valve shims. Im expecting a decent paycheck this friday, so im gonna try to order the rest of the shims.

Also spoke w/ my MAC Tools salesman and still no deburring tool. He says its not a MAC tool so he doesn't know when its going to be comming in. Still waiting on that to get the cams in and re-check my valve clearances.

Ok, received the shims tonight and already got them in the motor. Dont have my tools w/ me here so tommorrow i should be reinstalling the cams and verifying the valve clearances. After that I'll reassemble the head, road test for about a day or two, then w/ permission of my service manager I'll get the car on a lift, drop the subframe and see if theres any damage to the crank. If not, just swap the bearings. If so, I'll start saving up for another crank, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, piston rings, head gasket, rear oil seal, rear oil seal retainer gasket, arp rod bolts, and arp head studs.

ok, here at work posting from my phone. Got the metric feeler gague to verify clearances. Hopefuly i remember to take a ratchet amd the appropriate sockets home to reassemble the head. Going to check the tsrm also to see if i have to torque the cams or not. Pretty sure i do but going to verify befor messing with it.

Its great to have spare parts. Installed the intake cam and in an attempt to incorrectly turn the cam to have it @ TDC, i pried on the front of the cam by placing a flathead between the stud that aligns the cam gear and where you bolt the gear to the cam and the cam cracked right above the alignment stud so im going to unbolt that cam, put my replacement cam in and try to be more careful.

enjoyed a good laugh this morning at my own expense. feel kinda stupid to be honest. Both cams are on and installed. I checked clearances and realized that they seemed to be on the tight side.

Now, coincidentaly, I take a look at a measurement conversion chart that was shipped along w/ the shims from goodson. Notice that the chart shows decimal readings such as 0.015 then millimeters as 0.397. All of a sudden i start to second guess my interpretation of the feeler gauge so I googled the use. Turns out I was reading the values on the decimal side (Inches) as opposed to jotting down the metric values. Gotta go back and recheck things now.

ok.... took a break for a bit from the supra. haven't really been looking forward to doing the math for the shims but it seems like my calculations might be more on point this time.

Since I've left the supra sitting infront of my house with the valve covers removed and only a fender cover covering the cams and valve train the cams have started showing signs of surface rust. I took the liberty today of removing both cams again. Im currently sanding the rust off with some 1500 grit sand paper. Going to lay the cams on some shrink wrap i have here at home, pour some gear oil on em and wrap em up till i go to reinstall the cams to keep them from rusting. Gotta check the old shims to get sizes again and see if there are any that can be re-used again.

ok, got home from work today and pulled out the dial caliper to measure and label the old shims. got nine (9) different bags ranging from 2.6mm-3mm shims. Gonna Play Modern Warfare 2 now so tommorrow I'll worry about putting the shims where they go on the motor and see whats left to be ordered.

The ones that only show what the sizes are supposed to be are the shims that have to be ordered. Looks like a few 3/3.1/3.15mm shims that have to be orderd. Gotta see when i can get to it so I can road test for a day or two, then get the car on the lift at work and tear appart the bottom end and inspect the crank/bearings.
