Welp, I finally got back into town, and FINALLY picked up my turbo from FedEx.

As I suspected, my short runner 'HKS' style manifold is really designed for an on-center turbine housing, and as such, the compressor cover hits part of the mani.
I had purchased a 1/2" spacer for this issue, but it appears that I will need another 1/2" of clearance, so I just ordered another one. That, plus the gaskets should make it just clear the manifold. I also ordered some studs of appropriate length, and the stainless gaskets. Holding the turbo in approximate position in the engine bay, it looks like it should fit easily enough.

Also, picked up a few other things for the turbo:

Turbine blanket, feed and drain flanges, ptfe an4 feed line, an10 drain line, and an4 fittings.
I held off on buying the an10 drain fittings, till i could verify whether i need 2 straight ends, or a straight and 45.

The spacer and gasket won't be here for at least another 4 or 5 days, so I'll have to wait on some of the IC work.

I mean, the housings can withstand up to some pretty extreme temps to the point they are glowing so I can't really see how it would cause a problem unless there is a flaw in the design of the housing..
kinda like the same idea as heat wrapping the exhaust I guess
I've read that when you trap the heat like that it makes the exhaust gases hotter therefore expand more creating quicker spool..idk if that's true though
also keeps the heat out of the engine bay

I was debating putting a blanket on my 6265, but wasn't sure if that would cause any issues. It's one if those good/bad things so I wasn't sure if there was an actual reason not to.

The only reason a blanket "reduces the life of a turbo" is because it supposedly traps condensation and speeds up corrosion of the housing. I'm personally a fan of ceramic coating and metal shields in place of it. If they didnt work well, I doubt there would be nearly as many people using them still though

Turbine housings are what, 3/16" or thicker. Will take it a human lifetime to corrode to a thickness that can be compromised. Afterall, it isn't really submerged in salty sea water during it's operation...

I just bought an Egay special.
Mine has a 21" circumference. I'm not sure if the smaller size is 19" or 17", but this one seems to fit well enough.

When you installed your ATI damper, how did you hold it in place to be able to torque the crank bolt to factory spec?

I used a strap wrench. But I haven't yet torqued it to its final setting.
now that the engine is in the car, it should be a lot easier to do.

I looked at the ebay one vs the MVP one.. and there seems to be a whole lot of difference. I think I will get the one from MVP for the T4 (not sure if there is any other considerations for them)
My exhaust mani is ceramic coated now and checking to see if the hot side of the turbo is as well. I don't think it will matter much with a blanket on it anyway.

You can't really say the eBay ones are worse
of course company's like MVP will say something about their product to make it seem so much better when they're all made in the same place
for example godspeed
they have a turbo blanket..fiber glass, wired with steel and made to hold 2000°F
PTPs is twice as much and will only withstand 15° more so....

Sounds like you'll have heat under control, for sure.
