Don't mean to kill your thread Jay, but what are the differences in 1jz vs 2jz pistons?I am JW if I was able to find a 2jz-ge block and put my 1jz pistons in there to lower the compression, and allow me to use a stock 1jz gasket.

Mike, I've heard they fit good, but I read an article somewhere about an engine builder that tried this a couple times and the engines never lasted. I wish I could help you more.

Why don't you want to lower the compression with a thicker headgasket? Do you not think the 2mm gasket is safe? I didn't want to go larger than 2mm, but that brought my compression down to 8.67 which I feel I can live with.

Did you raise the entire map & lower the temp map or just add fuel in the temp map?

I added fuel in the temp map. I did it just testing it because as I was watching the map reach the next temperature, it would cut off. I raised the map from 0 to 10 and it would stay running until the next window and the same thing would happen, so I just raised it until it quit shutting off. I also lowered my timing map a little because it was popping and backfiring. It now sounds a lot better.

Why specifically won't they fit?

Sorry I think I got pretty confused on the subject matter. At the time I was thinking that the 2jzgte pistons will not fit the 1jz block but this is the other way around.

I am curious as well if the 1jz pistons with fit the 2jzge block. The pistons should be the same dimensions, so in theory it should work.

I know they fit, but I don't know how well they work. I'm pretty sure the skirts are different lengths.

Mike can you sell your 1jz block and then buy some 2jzgte pistons for the ge block and let that take care of your compression worries?

I need a gasket/seal kit for the 1jz anyway to replace everything else, so I will have a NIB one around, and I would rather spend less.

I am cheap, and if it works out with the 1jz pistons, that is one less thing to worry about. Besides, I would not be on a standalone, only using an AFC, so I don't want to mess with timing that much.

I have not gotten one yet, it is an idea and a long shot (cash flow problems) at that.
Check junkyards, partouts and importers.

I'm tuning it right now Pat, but I do plan on coming up there and letting you have a look see. I really need to get some more miles on the motor and the clutch so a trip up your way should be perfect. I plan on dynoing it next thursday, and I'd like to have at least 500 miles on the clutch even though it's my old clutch I just put back in. I'll give you a call and see what your schedule looks like.

If I show up, I'm melting some freaking wax and making me a FFIM and then I'm donating it to Milo so his car is running before he dies. If I leave tomorrow morning early, I should be there by dinner time or a little later. See you then. Have the forge ready.
