The latest: We are fast approaching dyno tune day, this Wednesday. We seem to have corrected the radiator cooling issue. The latest difficulty is a spool valve actuator diaphragm malfunction. It seems when we were checking the spool valve, making sure she opened and closed correctly, we blew in too much air and blew the diaphragm. So the spool valve wasn't opening properly. Today we wired it open and man, even thought the 67 has a tad more lag than my old GT35, I am still able to get at least 20 lbs by 4K rpms. Right now we are only running wastegate spring pressure, which is 22 lbs. Last year she was 550 rwhp at that level. Today my friend Gary took her for a spin, apparently the hose came off the wastegate and he did a 35 lb boost through 3 rd gear. "She's a real fucking animal Dan".
We still have a vibration I don't like and an exhaust pipe leak. My old Greddy system is just about toast. I really like it because she it's quiet. I do plan to go to a 3.5 inch in near future. Not sure what muffler to run. I want decently quiet and good looking. Any ideas appreciated.

Either way, a 3.5" exhaust is going to be loud. Make sure to have a quality muffler and resonator, maybe even two resonators to cut down on the drone. A 3.5" exhaust will be pretty necessary though, with the size of turbo you're running.

Mike, with luck we should be over 700. Right now, even without spool valve hooked up, at wastegate pressure of 22, she's real strong. It will be interested to see what 30 or 32 lbs will do.

Emilio, Sean is first going to fabricate his 7m down pipe, then we will be making 2 custom identical 3.5 inch. Gary was telling me about a brand of resonator that should work. I don't want drone and I don't want too loud. Any one interested in my Greddy cat back? The muffler is still good, the resonator is shot.

I'm willing to bet Dan Getzke may be interested in that exhaust. BUT, I have a funny feeling if you posted a for sale thread here on SM or on Supraforums you'd get more money. People go crazy for those Greddy exhausts, and Getzke may not want to have to deal with that resonator.

Emilio, I am not interested in milking out as much as I can. The exhaust came with the car when I bought her and has served me well for 10 years. When the time comes, I will sell local if possible. Maybe even a trade??

what size is it dan? i might be interested. does it use the cat or is it dp back?

It's about 3 inches, perhaps 80mm (a bit larger than 3"). That set does use the cat if I remember correctly.

Yes, it did come with a cat, but that has long since been removed. The resonator is whats rusting through now. Once we get the 3.5 one made, she will be up for grabs. I like the way it sounds, quiet, yet powerful sounding rumble. I would take one in 3.5 if made, except it would be real expensive.

i am very interested dan... i have a nice dp... but crap from there back at one point in the cars past it had a complete hks setup.... but the po had the muffler cut off of it and replaced with junk....he stated he did not like the loud exhaust....old peeps suck sometimes.... they put a reducer to 2 in after the dp collector and such on back. id love to be 3 inch all the way back. i can replace the resonator... i have a welder and know how to make a spark....how much?

Jeremy, at this point I am not sure. It won't be too bad though. The piping is getting a bit rusty, so you might want to go with new. The muffler itself is in pretty good shape. The resonator in front of it is pretty shot. Its probably been on the car for over 20 years. We might have to start an auction??

Today's update: Sean and I pulled the Supra to DB Performance and had Shane dial her in. I am happy that we didn't break anything, but unhappy we didn't make more power. I had expected in the 725-750 range. According to Shane, my 3" exhaust and 1.0 A?R on the turbo aren't big enough. Here's the dyno sheet. We made almost as much on wastegate as we did with boost controller. I was not happy.

Sean and I then pulled her 90 miles to Brainerd, where I made 2, 1/4 runs before electrical issues stopped us. I launched at 3800 rpm, and immediately the car cut out for a split second and then a huge back fire. Sean told me it looked like confetti blowing out of my exhaust. It then did it again but not as loud in 2nd gear. I still had a 116 trap speed, but poor e.t. The next run was even worse. Sean asked me why I was driving like an old man? I told him we had mechanical issues. He then drove her outside the track and proceeded to make a run with me in the passenger's seat. The first pull she really took off, however on the way back, ran like shit. So it wasn't me after all. Other good news, we easily passed tech inspection.
I am ordering my new 4" piping in near future and much large a/r to go with the spool valve. Once in, we will go back for another touch up tune by Shane. It was a long day but all said I am decently happy. The Supra has over 500 rwhp on the wastegate spring. Tracking down the electrical issue should not be too hard, as Sean already thinks he knows what the problem is. He thinks it's related to the wire tuck and the sensor for the tach.

Rob, when we were there dynoing, Shane pulled up my last years dyno results with spool valve working. Boost comes on about 600 or so rpm quicker. Once we have the actuator and the 4 inch housing, along with exhaust. I bet she returns to that rpm. I originally wanted 264 cams but when Sean found the HKS 272's for such a low price. I had to do it.
I can't wait to see what the inside of my current resonator and muffler look like. Perhaps they are the source of my low h/p dyno run?

That graph looks like you cut the revs around 7000 rpm? Wow, I'm going to be spinning higher than you, Dan! :p

Did you mess with the cam timing when you were on the dyno? I wonder if there's something there. I am VERY VERY happy to see your power coming on at around the same RPM as mine does, even with your slightly bigger hotside! :D

A 1.0ar divided like dans is more like a .68ar undivided, the goal was quick as hell spool....

Steve, she really pretty much topped out at 7k. Not sure if it was the restriction or if it was the cam timing. We didn't play with it. I wish now we would have unbolted the cat back and just ran the down pipe.
Even with a larger a/r we should still do pretty good with the spool valve.

Steve, any idea if I buy a new exhaust housing, will the comp housing fit on any other manufacturer's turbo? I am going to want to sell it.

I think that would be a better question for Justin- perhaps they would take a trade-in on a bigger housing?
