4" stuff has been bought. Got a decent 4" take off system from a Dodge truck. It has all the bends we should need. Sean will fabricate early next week. I do know Adam. Can't match his spending though.

Sent the turbo housing back to Comp yesterday. The new one will be 1.32 A/R with 4" outlet, v-band set up. Joe (owner of Comp) gave me a smoking good deal on it, plus another great deal on a turbo blanket. After a lot of searching, the plan is to do a 4" down pipe, 4" back to the Greddy cat back and then drop her to 3". Will either buy a cutout or just v-band her together, unhook the 3" when on the dyno or at the track. This way I can keep my relatively decently quiet exhaust. Seems like a decent compromise. The research on the full 4" systems, all confirm, that 4" is good but difficult to quiet down. Hope to be driving her next week.

I'd much rather have a cutout then having to take the exhaust off all the time. Even with a lift it would still be a hassle. Do an electric cutout! I know you like old man comforts! ;)

You get the 1.32 housing?

I might just get the electonic cut out offered by Sound performance, we will see. The housing just showed up today. Will have it on as soon as sean gets back from up north. not by tomorrow for track night.

Turbo exhaust housing came in today, 1.32 a/r with 4" outlet cut for a v-band, turbo blanket, damn, its thick and nice. Great deal on it. I also have a pic of the difference between 3" and 4" exhaust, plus pic of flex section.

Mike, it is a bad ass cut out. Just not sure I can justify the $500 it would cost with the solenoid and Hobbs switch. Might not be a bad idea to simply run the setup I have for now. See how loud it is with the 4" to the cat back and my now pretty much blown out resonator. Sean is going to weld it up so it wont leak any more. All the guts are still in Brainerd at the track! :biglaugh:

Mike, we finally fired her up last night. The bigger housing is on but the 4" exhaust is not. If it ever stops raining, I will take her for a drive tonight. I am planning on going. Still plenty of tweaking to do. Sean has been working up by Little Falls so getting the exhaust done up in the way I had planned didn't happen. 4" will have to wait for the winter.
I am picking up Sean on Friday evening on the way up to Brainerd.

Sean is correct. We have had several issues over the last couple of years that could contribute to poor compression. Perhaps a not so hot machining job, rod knock with a lot of metal particulate in crank case. I was planning on building her someday anyway. Might as well get started. It's not the end of the world. This time a top shop to do the engine work. Once we see the shape of the block and how much needs to be machined I can start accumulating parts. I am not going to skimp.
I also still have the missing issue. Several pretty smart mechanics have told me the missing issue is very unlikely to be related to the low compression. So the AEM will be sent in but only after going through all the wiring at least one more time.

Tonight Sean and Dallas pulled out the 2JZ. He had her out and on the engine stand in under 3 hours. I was busy working on the house, it might have been even quicker. Now the ATI pulley needs to come off, and then she will be on the way to the machine shop in a week or so. As of right now, the plan is to use the shop recommended by Dave Henry. Will be starting the process of looking for rods, pistons and bearings. I will probably be running 9.5/1 compression. Might as well since I run e85 exclusively. Also thinking of painting the engine bay the same blue as my car. What do you think??

Today I hauled the 2JZ to Fargo. I am using the same machine shop Dave Henry uses for his rebuilds, Quality Engine. I have never seen so many blocks and heads in one spot. Must have been a couple hundred of them. They look crazy busy. Once I get the call as to what sized pistons, and bearings. I am going with the flat top 10 to 1 compression, as recommended by DaveH and Mark Conte. It takes about 4-5 weeks once ordered. So I am done driving her for the season. Frustrating year, next will be better. I have now had my 87 for 10 years. I bought her from a guy in New Jersey.

No worries, Dan. Cars break/wear out- all you can do is rebuild and upgrade what you can! Looks like I'll be going the same route as you with the bumped up compression. Just ordered an ATI for myself too!

I kinda like the black engine bay personally- makes a bit of contrast to the body but its whatever. Those details... ;)

Mike,
The brackets will indeed get repainted. I am hoping the machine shop calls next week to give me tolerances so I can order the pistons.

Jeremy, yes, frustrating season. Next year we will be kicking v8 ass and taking names.
