So after abit more thought, I decided to tackle this again after school, i went out there with a plan and 5 minutes later freaked out my roommates proclaiming my victory!!!
Over 2 years in the making, by a bizarre coincidence it got installed 2 years
to the day after I started this very build thread :crazy1:
I jacked up the engine from the bellhousing and rear of the block on the side we got into the engine mount already, just enough to release most of the tension off of the engine mount on the exhaust side, I loosened the engine mount and slide it up the subframe until the stud lined up and everything just dropped into place like a glove
So yesterday, loading the engine into the jeep ended up being easier then we expected, grabbed a bunch of parts, a big 1/2" piece of plywood to level out our path, and this is when we arrived at my house:
And then after some not so thoroughly thought out maneuvring, we broke one of the wheels! Luckily it was a quick fix:
I then decided before we took the engine off of the stand, we should see if we would actually be able to clear the engine bay, after putting the car back down on the ground, we realised it still wasn't even close to clearing!
So we decided we would have to work without the load leveler, which gave us just enough clearance.
So the work continued! I started packing some grease behind the pilot bearing, but that turned out being very difficult and messy, so I switched to the wet paper towel trick, and it worked like a charm!
After cleaning the crank and tapping in a new bearing (a short 3/4" drive extension + rubber mallet worked great for this) it was time for the flywheel, some arp's, red loctite, and the torque wrench and the flywheel was ready to go
Then we realised we had to put on the rear end plate :biglaugh: So the flywheel came off, the rear plate went on, and the flywheel was back in place. Some patience, and more red loctite (on the bottom 2 trans bolts and pressure plate) and we had a drivetrain ready for installation!
It started getting dark by the time we actually were getting the engine in the bay, which ended up being a very frustrating ordeal! This was the first engine I've ever installed so I ran out of ideas when things weren't falling into place correctly:
Much frustration and cursing followed this image lol
